If the price is right, sure.

I think the 2691 is closer to a being a chopped 3725, rather than a 2650 on steroids.

You can check the Cisco Portable Product sheet web page and check the router performance, memory, and module cross reference PDFs to get a feel for what the router can do and what it can support.

You can then check the the IOS Packaging PDF from the Portable Product Sheets web page to get an idea of the different IOS images available.

You can then check the Cisco IOS Feature Navigator to find out what features are supported in a specific IOS or which platforms/IOS supports a specific feature... etc.

And then you can shop for a while on eBay and get a feel for the current prices and availability.

Building a home lab is a leaning experience.

Yup. A 2691 is very nice actually. It is the only 2600 that supports MPLS as well.

After I shuffle around pieces of my home lab I usually lean against my front door -- so right. If I lean left I could fall out (or break) the windows (or picture window).

But with a smaller home lab, like just a single stack of routers and switches, then it's probably more of a learning experience then a leaning experience.
