Lab Review

I was just given a 2610, 2112, and 2650 router with a 2924 XL, a 2924C XL and a 3512 switch, a PIX 525, and a 22U enclosed rack.

Will this be enough for my CCENT and CCNA? I know the routers will only support up to 12.3 IOS and the switches has a bit different syntax then the 2950's but for free I could not turn it away.

Ha Ha thanks. It should be enough for what the CCNA covers with the difference correct? I am looking into getting XM routers down the road but would like to get my CCNA first

Get a 2950 switch and also you can boot 12.4 images from tftp- to 2600's as a hack. For most stuff 12.3 will be just fine. Does Cisco stress the gui on the CCNA like on the CCNA security these days? I remember taking the CCNA Security and having to figure out the SDM on the fly that was fun. Now I use it on the regular for configuring VPN tunnels cause I hate IPsec. If the SDM is a testable topic you might want to get a router that supports this or just boot one in dynamips to get a feel. Also why is t f t p blocked in these forums?

There are some SDM configuration topics in the exam blueprint -- so a 1721 or 2600XM are two popular hardware lab options. Dynamips is also an option. Either way watch out for the Java version and Browser compatibility issues.

The switches you have will get you started for the CCENT, but you should plan on adding at least one 2950 at some point in your studies - hopefully before you find out that you need it.

You should have some time to start bidding on eBay now to check current prices and try to score a great deal.

It seems to be a "feature" of the Board software to prevent some attacks.
