Confusing Question...

So I have been using the Measure Up CD that came with my ExamCram2 book for the Security+. This is the question and answer I got:

Which of the following best describes false acceptance?

The answer: The system recognizes an authorized person and accepts that person.

I am not sure I understand the question or the answer.

I would think it would have to do with the systems incorrectly finding someone to be authorized person.

I would agree with you. It sounds like a mistake and they seem to be prevalent in a lot of the exam books/practice software I have seen.

That is what frustrated me the most. There was no context!

False acceptance is typically associated with biometrics. Here's a quote from a book I'm familiar with:

"False acceptance occurs when a biometric system incorrectly

identifies someone as an authorized user."

In other words, a fingerprint is being used for authentication for Sally. Joe uses his fingerprint trying to authenticate himself as Sally and it works. Cheap biometric systems are prone to more false acceptance responses. When adjustable, biometrics systems are often calibrated to eliminate any false acceptance while accepting the possibility of some false rejections.

False rejection occurs when a biometric system incorrectly rejects an authorized user.
