NM-HDV query / H323 gateway query - total noob + broken lab?

Dear Members,

I started down the CCVP path last month and have been working on putting together a little lab since then.

As a part of this endeavour, i purchased two 2610 (32DRAM/8flash) Routers to equip them as gateways, with a tricked out 1760-V to act as the PSTN.

For starters, i purchased an NM-HDV with 2 PVDM`s and a VWIC-1MFT-T1 and inserted that into the first 2610 (NM slot). For the life of me, i have not been able to get the router to recognize the NM-HDV.

Here is an output of 'sh ver' on the router. As you will see below, it was initially running 12.3(26):

Without success. I followed instructions at Understanding High Density Voice Network Modules - Cisco Systems where it is suggested to use at least :

12.0(5)XK, 12.0(7)T, 12.1, 12.1T, 12.2, 12.2T for an NM-HDV with a 2600.

I upgraded the router to 12.2(46) (IP/H323 feature set), but still:

I have even tried to plug the NM-HDV into the other 2610 running the same IOS without success. It just wont get recognized.

Question: After all my attempts, am i correct in assuming that the NM-HDV is faulty? Am i using the correct IOS for the 2610? All my research till now has indicated that the NM-HDV should function with the 2610 with its current IOS version.

Second question: With the IOS above (12.2(46a)) - IP/H323 feature set, why am i unable to use the 'gateway' command? None of the commands mentioned in:

actually work. Am i using the incorrect IOS/feature set?

I`m a total newbie when it comes to such matters as i am just only starting out. Feel free to castigate me for my total uncoolness

Check the Cisco IOS Feature Navigator
Cisco Feature Navigator - Cisco Systems

You can search by feature -- then platform to see which IOS you'd need (and if it exists).

Your ix feature set is not going to get it done.

You may be able to try some of the smaller 2600XM voice feature sets or try to t-ftp boot an XM image to get the gateway support.

Thanks Mike, i was hoping you would respond.

I did try loading c2600-ipvoice-mz.123-3i.bin (for the 2610XM) on the 2610 that i have over tftpboot, and guess what, works like a charm. The NM-HDV is recognized and ready to go.

Now i am planning on ordering some extra flash/ram for the 2610`s to get them to do what i want.

Last question:

Where can i get information on what Cisco IOS feature set is required to support what applications and cards? Before this, i was not aware that an 'IPVOICE' feature set would be required to support voice, and thought 'IP/H323' feature set would have been sufficient. Is there any list i could refer to? A lot of the links from the Cisco feature navigator just end up in broken links. A lot of googling around has also not helped me. Would you have any quick links?

The doc you linked to had the "foot note" for the IOS Support column in the table under the Platform Support section

1 Requires a Cisco IOS Plus feature set.

I haven't tried any of the Feature Navigator links -- just the feature & platform lookup functions to find the IOS versions/feature sets, and those have worked fine. Maybe you're just having a "bad internet day" or Cisco may be doing some updates (or the links go to areas of the Cisco Site that require a support contract)
