Actually - while I'd rather be watching 300, I shall be sitting the exam at 5:30CST.

I know I haven't studied near enough, and I don't do PKI / Clustering on a regular basis... so we'll see how this goes.

I did OK on the 70-291 so I'm hoping to carry some of that momentum. Honestly - I don't think I'll ever have to deal with server clusters, and I have a pretty good handle on security and best practices so we'll see. None of my current clients use Unix for DNS, and if they did well I guess I'd have to figure it out.

Hopefully this isn't impossible - I really didn't find the material all that interesting. I guess it doesn't help that I mostly work with 2008 Servers + 2010 exchange now. This "old" tech stuff isn't as cool IMO (although I do appreciate the foundation and terminology and general concepts that get carried over) so it's hard to study for me.

Anyway...

EDIT: Study Material: 1/2 Sybex 70-293 book, a few CBT nuggets, and random TechNet articles here and there....

Well I failed. Pretty much expected. 592. Plan, Implement, and Maintain Server availability. Also low on Plan, Implement, and Maintain Network Security.

So - with that in mind, I'm having a bubbly, playing some games, and letting everyone else know - as you probably already do - that the 293 is not a walk in the park if you don't work with this stuff every day.

That sucks. Play with your "Bubbly" and you will kill it next time.

Ouch, sorry to hear that

I've seen a decent number of people mention that they felt 293 was more difficult than 291 (more than likely due to the fact that the material is much less day-to-day than 291).

Keep your chin up; you'll kill it next time. Give Transcender a shot if you haven't already.

Sorry about the bad news dude, experienced that feeling many times.

Get that PKI on a leash and I reckon you'll have it. You'll also be much better off for it in the field as well.

Well, your not alone so don't worry about the fail. Lab it up as much as possible and go through all the labs in your books. Especially the PKI, clustering and anything you are weak on.

on the downside weve both recently failed it. On the plus side i have finnished my notes so there will be a post in a min for the download of them

That's a real stinker. You should try doing some labs setting up clustering and the like. If you can set up just three VMs you can create a cluster with iSCSI storage. I wrote a post about how to do it with SQL Server in the SQL Server forum, though I have not edited it. Also, doing some stuff with NLB would help.

Network security is all about using PKI, SCAT, and encryption types, if I recall. You do a lot of labs for those as well. Use the same VMs as in the other labs. Just imagine you are setting up a sql server cluster to hold video from drones....

Just set up your CA and use the certificates for the IPSec. Get the hands on and you'll crush it next time!
