I actually ordered the scns/p books just to see what they're about. They should be here by next week so i'll do a quick skim over and post what i think. I havn't seen much of a demand for them but they look more DoD and i'm canadian.

I took the SCNP class at a community college several years ago. It was a junior-grade hacker class that had a mediocre text book that cost $150US. The SCP programs seem to be packaged and marketed to technical colleges. I never bothered going for the cert; no employers ask for it.

Well the books showed up today exceptionally fast service. About 550 pages and looks to be a hands on version of security+ (where security+ should be heading)

For example there are 30 pages dedicated to installing configuring and using snort as an IDs. It shows creating/testing rulesets. There is ISA server,lamp ipsec,IIS. Seems like a very good read and plenty of hands on for it.Initial impression is impressive. There's even a section on osi and subnetting which is odd but interesting.

I'll have to make time to read this sometime next month.

I paid $70 for the textbook i think it was on special? $150 is a bit steep for an intro book.

Yeah that is a bit much for a book.

I agree that it would be nice if the Security+ was more hands on, but CompTIA is vendor neutral.
