I have been so involved in software certifications that I tend to ignore the hardware certifications especially cabling. What types of cabling certification programs are available?

I believe C-tech is a top training cabling program but what is involved in certification?

mmmm not sure how much you can get out of this stuff , unless your going to be a cable/fiber infrastructure installer. Other than that as a network engineer / technician your not even going to build your own fiber cables but you will build plenty of copper cables, straight through and crossover. Im sure you already know how to build the two, its easy and you can find out how to do it and master it online in a couple hours. I dunno thats how i feel about these certs.

I actually have a C-Tech cert in copper I got back in 01 or 02 I think(no date on the cert) I think it was one of the best investments I ever made and I'm actually in a situation right now where I rue not haven taken the fiber course. The copper course for any network engineer\administrator I think is fantastic and of incredible value. learning how to troubleshot, cut, crimp, and install various cable come in handy far more then I ever thought possible in the past.

I have never heard of c-tech, but it looks promising. Is this for personal knowledge? If so, you can also get with your company's cable team and pick their brains. There is also BICISI that is recognized throughout the industry. I personally do not have those certs, I only have fiber cert. There are options, just depend on what you think is good.

I keep several different lengths of pre-molded booted ethernet cables in my kit and my cage. 50 bucks was a cheap investment to keep from having to crimp my own damn cables in an emergency

+1, I can crimp my own cables (and have done plenty of it) but I hate doing it.

@OP: I really don't see you having to do much fiber. The stuff is expensive, and mistakes with it are even more expensive. Even with copper in a large environment it is probably better to have an expert do the work.
