Are you looking for auto crossover detection (auto MDI/MDIX)?

If so, I honestly didn't notice it until the Cat 2960s were released. I don't think that it was supported on the 2950s (but could be wrong).

I just read something to suggest this is the case, only later switches support auto mid-x. Support for auto mdi in routers is worse so using the correct cables is a must.

Hmmm.. cisco shows the 2950 & 2924xl both autosensing so Im lost.

My understanding is that the term "autosensing" is referring to 10/100 and not the auto mid-x, and from switch to switch would be cross over (like to like) need a cross over, and unlike to unlike a straight through would work is what I have learned in the Cisco world... My main home switches use auto mid-x.

What tazdevil said.

Autosensing = It will automatically select the required port speed and duplex.
Auto-MDIX = It will automatically do the crossover for you if necessary.

Easy to assume that it's supported - After all, $20 Netgear switches have had an auto uplink port for years

Ya, I know from experience that the 2950's dont support auto-mdix...
