CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification exam now available
IT professionals can earn two vendor-neutral Linux certifications for the price of one with the introduction of the new CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification. The certification is the result of a partnership between CompTIA and the Linux Professional Institute. Independent reports indicate the number of Linux jobs is growing and that employers are willing to pay a 10% salary premium for IT professionals with enterprise Linux skills. The new program allows candidates who pass the exams to earn the new CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification and the existing LPIC-1 certification. Visit CompTIA Linux+ to learn more

If I am not mistaken LPI has a partnership with Novell also for the SuSe cert. Seems there soon is a way to obtain three certs by doing one if you tie the pieces together.

Although it seems you can get LPIC-1 via L+, it is not the same the other way around, I don't think you can get L+ via LPIC-1. As it is now, if you complete LPIC-1, you are eligible for Novell's CLE11 but not L+. I am also not sure why would you want L+ if you have LPIC-1...

Certs are great for getting beyond the initial resume pile and into the interview pile. HR isn't as informed as we wish they were and they may not know what LPIC is but may recognize the + on the end of Linux+.

So I can see value in having both of them, buy yeah if everyone was properly informed there wouldn't be much need for Linux+ when you have LPIC-1.

The new Linux+ requires two tests (LX0-101 and LX0-102). At a cost of $235 each! YIKES!!!!!

But if you roll it into LPIC, and the CLA; you get three certs for the $465.

Assuming those are prices in US dollars, your LPIC-1 road if you take LPI exams will cost you $320, each exam is $160. And you'll get 3 certs as well: Novell's Linux Admin, Novell's Data Center Specialist and LPIC-1 itself.
I have never taken any CompTIA test yet so I can't comment from my expirience, but from what I read from you guys here, some parts are obviously missing in that organization. Why on earth would an emulation be more expensive than the original?

The new exam prices are the same whether you take them from LPI or CompTIA:

LX0-101 CompTIA Linux+ [Powered by LPI] Exam 1 $US 160.00
LX0-102 CompTIA Linux+ [Powered by LPI] Exam 2 $US 160.00

The $239 pricing is for the old XK0-002 exam, which will retire on October 31, 2010.
