Bridge-groups VS VLANs

Hey guys,

I was wondering if someone can help clarify the fundamental difference between bridge-groups and vlans.

They both seem to support virtual interfaces, and you can apply interfaces to each one as well as STP support.

I do see that you can apply the BVI1 interface to a vlan which I am curious about. I configured BVI and bridge-groups on my 1811 router but I don't think I fully understand exactly what's going on here.

So I'm hoping another "human" might be able to provide the right interpretation that will click for me. I've read Cisco's docs and they are so dry I feel like a robot reading them...

Thanks!
