My home lab

I work as a Helpdesk and i was talking with the manager of the network engineer and I told her that I sturdying for Bcmsn for a log time, and she was like hold on and she went to a room and she came back with 2 3560 switches so I can used it as a lab. Now, I have 2 3560 2 2900xl and 2600 series. Is this enought?

The two 3560's are good. The other's are crap. I have those 2900XL and it would cost me more to ship them to someone than the sale price of them...

How many routers do you have?

I haven't taken the exam, I've only skimmed the materials... so what I say is very opinionated... someone whose taken the exam could probably weigh in better than I can.

I would try to get another switch or two for the BCMSN... the more the merrier! You'll be able to practice some VTP, HSRP, VRRP, etc... with 3 or more switches. Again, the more the merrier... especially if you all have 3560s laying around!! Good luck.

I've taken the exam and 2 switches is plenty. I didn't even use 3550's when I took my BCMSN, I used everything on GNS3/Dynamips. HSRP, VRRP, you really only need two switches to do the load balancing between a particular IP address, there isn't much more I can say that you need more than two switches for, especially since I didn't have one other than a 2950 I have here in my lab, I did everything by using a router IOS and enabling a switching interface. It was everything I needed to pass the BCMSN.

Can you tell that Network Engineer that I'm studying for my TSHOOT, that I need 2-3 3560's? Shipping address is 101....... LOL

Nice! I want the 3560s too! I need it for my home lab. On top of that, Can I get 3 x 1800s or 2800s so that my home lab will be complete!

I'm jealous. I'd be happy with one 3560 at this point for my home lab. Those things are going for a small fortune on ebay. Some jerk always swoops in and snipes my auction within about 5 seconds of it ending...I don't know how they do it.

Buy it now always. Ebay auctions are fixed and not worth the time anymore.

Most of my purchases have been BUY IT NOW. If I felt the price was fair and shipping was fair.

I have been able to win a couple bids, got a steal on a 3550 PoE but most of the time, the prices always come back to close or over what they are worth.

Trying not to spend too much time on eBay it's addictive...

Eh. I don't believe that they're fixed but are closely monitored by people who have eBay as their business/job. Automated tools make it hard to sneak past with a bargain that other people don't notice. I've looked at a lot of the auctions here in the UK and the auctions from sellers just getting rid of 1-2 random items usually get bought by the big eBay resellers.

I know, I have their countdown tool running on my 2nd monitor as I type this. This is why I wanted to find a good wholesaler of used Cisco gear...but they charge double or triple what you can buy it for on ebay if you're patient.

Yeah, the use cisco market is a bit more expensive, do you buy a little more assurance? I don't know, I guess so. I've never used them.

For example I got my 3550 with inline for I think around $230 which was a slammin' deal. I think they go for about $300-400 on average on eBay....

If you go to those wholesalers/used market companies, you know you're going to get charged much more and they probably bought the stuff on eBay!!! LOL!!!

Thank god they got JunOS working on dynamips. I think if/when I get my CCIE i'll head on over to the JNCIE side of things.

JunOS sort of works in a VM or on PC hardware but there is a lot that doesn't because you're missing hardware. The only reason it even works at all is because of the Olive mode code that Juniper put in for what was alledgely test/development usage originally.
