OSPF Problem Unknown routing protocol on a 3550

I have a problem with a 3550 switch. When I try to use OSPF, Im getting Unknown routing protocol. This is my IOS c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-13.EA1a/c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-13.E
A1a.bin. When I type router ? I see OSPF there, so I don't know why the switch is not taking the command. Any help?

Post the output of a show version command

And the output of the actual terminal session where you enter the commands and get that error would be useful....

Get thee over to the Cisco IOS Feature Navigator and make sure your image is an EMI image

Since I tested the link I posted to the Feature Navigator and was there I copy and pasted your image name and did a search by image. If I read it correctly you only have an SMI image (and RIP).

The IOS image will have IP Services in the name if it is EMI.

You'll want to upgrade your IOS anyway as you are running 12.1 and should upgrade to 12.2

I think the latest and greatest is c3550-ipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE6.bin (C3550-IPSERVICESK9-M)

I had a similar issue with a multilayer switch (forget the model). It had ipbase on it, but the router ospf command was available according to ios help. When entered, nothing happened though. Fixed by putting ipservices on it.

Ran into that issue with en ebay switch I bought. That's an SMI image, you need the EMI IP services image. Luckily my other 3550 had the IP services image so I just copied that one.
