Idiot Mistake - Please help

Hey everyone,

Well last night I was bored and was reading some articles about Ubuntu. I tried it, didn't like it. So I used Computer Manager via Windows 7 and deleted the partition it was installed on. Apparently it changed my drive letter from C: to

Now when I try and boot up I get an no partition found in a command screen, followed by

grub rescue>

What can I do to get it to boot windows again ? I've looked through the CMOS and cant find any settings to help. I have no idea what to do at all.

I'm not sure what the above posted but you uninstalled ubuntu without getting rid of grub, and grub requires a linux platform to be seen for it to run properly by default. So you boot into grub and gub crashes.

The best way to fix it is to reinstall linux, remove grub, remove linux, then you should be able to boot into windows.

This is what happened to me, anyway.

Also, if you cant figure out how to remove grub, installing ubuntu again will give you the option to boot into either ubuntu or Windows 7 again from grub.

Just boot off the Windows 7 disc, and it will detect and repair problems (replace grup with its bootloader) with your installation.

Anyway, I tried the repair diagnostic tools, several of them. What I ended up doing was installing windows over the corrupted installation, it put all of my data into a Windows.old. After that I managed to use the startup repair tool again and it recovered the old installation from the Windows.old folder. I still couldn't get it to boot -said the NLS was corrupt, so I attempted bootrec.exe /repairbcd with no success - so I just went through and grabbed my downloads folder along with other important files of mine and moved them to the new installation and deleted the secondary OS. Probably not the smartest way to handle it but I've never encountered problems like this before so I just handled it the best way I could.

I dunno about windows 7, but you used to be able to just 'fdisk /mbr' from the install disk/rescue mode or something.

yeah this is what I was going to recommend... fdisk /mbr, Dynamik's suggestion should work as well. Should be easy to fix.
