Attacking the 70-680 tomorrow

Well since it is 1:00 am, I guess I am taking the test today actually. I have studied the MS Press book cover-to-cover, done several of the labs included in the book and used Technet to straighten out any confusion along the way. I have taken several of the MS Press included DVD tests and I am now scoring in the upper 90's...so I figure I am ready.

Test time is 10:45 am EST, talk to you on the other side...hopefully as a MCSA then!!!

Thanks. Only a couple hours until test time now. I put in about 4 weeks of study. I started immediately after I passed the 70-291 early last month.

Passed with a 783. The test was tougher because it had some things I had not read about. I guess that is the case for using multiple study materials. Normally I use at least two books and a video series to study. Finally, an MCSA...now what will be next!

Congrats man!! In reference to your cert list, on top of MCSA and MCP, you actually are an MCTS: Windows 7 candidate (MCP would be for the older exams) :P.

Honestly, I am not sure which direction to go in at this point. I am awaiting a suggestion from someone specific in the industry. I would like to get more proficent with PowerShell, but there isn't a cert for that. I would also like to get CCNA or something with SQL. It is really hard to know what direction to go when I am not working in the IT field...I don't know what is fluff and window dressing vs. what is really beneficial. So that is why I am waiting for my friend to lend me a suggestion.

Until I get some feedback I will study beer, movies and video games:D...at least 'til my weekend is over, then back to domestics, drunks and hoes.

Ok...so I didn't start on the beer right away. Instead I was reading the specialization requirements for MCSA:Security. The way I am reading this, given my current certs, I would only need to take the 70-299 to get the Security specialization...is that correct?

Congrats on your pass. I'm kind of in the opposite situation as you... I've got 11 years of experience and I'm just now getting certs since I'm working with a Microsoft and Cisco partner and they require certs to keep their partner level. I just picked up my A+/Net + and now I'm going for MCITP: Enterprise Server starting with 70-680.

At any rate, here is my advice. CCNA is a widely accepted and respected cert... if there was one to go for next that one would definitely help in almost any respect. You'll learn a lot more in depth concepts for TCP/IP and sub-netting along with routing and switching. Those things will help you in your career and also in getting hired.

From there, once you start working your job responsibilities will be a good guide as to what direction to take next. Until then... like I said I'd recommend grabbing the CCNA and then continue to pick up things that interest you and that you enjoy.

I need the 070-299 too, but I have so much other materials to study.
