Cisco 1242 connection problem

Hello

I trying to connect 2 Cisco 1242 AP with Radio A in Root And non-Root brigde mode
and I want to Connect Clients via Radio G without Security
Can anyone help me step by step with the configuration ??

I'm in the same boat too, but in my case I have my Verizon Fios wireless without security and I want to use the ap1242 to extend my wireless.

1. Create a SSID with no security for the 802.11g radio on both APs.
2. Create a SSID with relevant security for the 802.11a radio on both APs.
3. Set the 802.11g radio in both APs to be in Access Point mode.
4. Set the 802.11a radio in one to be in root bridge mode.
5. Set the 802.11a radio in the remaining AP to be in non root bridge mode.
6. Set the SSID as the Infrastructure SSID on the non root bridge.
7. Enable both radios on both APs

Just use the web GUI configuration if you're unsure. The Cisco documentation will tell you everything you need anyway.

Both sides need to be Cisco APs to use root bridge mode. You can't bridge to the WiFi AP in your FiOS box unless it is another Aironet.

I thought thy you can use it as a repeater.

You said the same boat as the OP and they wanted root bridges.

Either way, Cisco insist that you have Cisco Aironet extensions enabled on both APs if you're using a repeater and that ideally all clients have support for those extensions as well.
