Failed Network+

I viewed all of professor messor videos and studied the review questions from Mike Meyers, I still failed. My bad feeling went away when one of my coworkers said that he failed twice already. My score was 705 which I guessed at least 50% of the test. I am giving myself some time, I will retake the test in 10 days. I think I am missing it in the longer scenio type questions. Meanwhile, I am reading another resource like Todd Lammle and taking all possible practice exams on this site. I am open to other sources but not the ****.

I suggest that you use the breakdown to study from. Maybe spend alittle more then 10 days for studying. You can do it.

I suggest you get the Labsim as that's all I used for the test, and a little googling.

The one topic I found difficult was the practical portion, as I haven't seen the inside of a wiring closet or a server room in years. They seemed to have a lot of questions about that on my test. Anyway, good luck next time and if you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask us.

That's why the Labsim is really good. Even though you don't actually touch the wiring closet you do get demonstrations on everything. Labsim for the Net+ is a very good learning tool.

I think you need to give yourself more than 10 days. A good month to prepare. The last thing you want to do is cram.

I agree that using the Labsim would be helpful. I personally did not use this as a study material but I do know others that have. They all agree that this was a very helpful tool in their success. It all depends on your experience with networks.

If you do not have the luxury of having hands on materials (patch panels, cabling, routers,etc..) for you to use, than this should help give you a little better understanding of theses devices.

Scoring a 705 is right there on the edge, so you are not far from the line of 720.

I also agree with Cabrillo24, give your self a little more time. No need to rush into it. maybe double that to 20 days.

+1 That is all I used and I scored an 870/900 after only studying for two weeks.

Did you have any experience with networking when you got the labsim? I just downloaded it off the internet and was seeing if I should use that as my primary studying source.

I had zero hands on experience. I used Labsim and a book (lousy book, by the way) and made an 865 with about 3 weeks study. They show you how stuff is done (live demos of crimping cables, using different tools). There is still study to do OSI model, ports, media lengths/speeds and I'm sure I'm leaving off some.

buckle up friend, you are not far off. just take 2 weeks doing all practice exams you can get your hands on and refresh the topics you are weak @. Comptia's exams are a bit tricky with the wording and funny options and make sure you read the questions thoroughly before you answer.

Great advice from everyone here. Take at least a month to study if not, more. I studied for 3 months because I did not want to take the test for granted and it paid off. Everyone has a different learning curve. But keep your head up and start studying. If you need any materials, I would be more than happy to help you out so that we can get you passed before the end of the year. Next year, the rules change you know, where you will have to retest every 3 years.

Yeah mine is scheduled for this friday and i'm seriously considering re-scheduling it. Read Myer's book fully and then took a few practice tests. Doing about half pass half fail on them. Noting most of my stuff is cabling issues. Checking for labsim now to see what that's all about. It's been about 6 years since i've been in any kind of classroom/test setting so i'm pretty dang nervous. Also don't have the 200+ spare bucks to toss around.

Dude I hope you pass it next time... I think I have a good grasp on the material after doing all the Lammle book but I still just dont know... anyone can attest to the book being good for the test? I took the free Preptest one, and failed it. So many hard questions, I cant believe... it was the multiplechoice sentence-long-answer questions that got me... Id always get one missing.

You don't actually have to retest unless you let it expire. As long as you keep up with your CEUs during the 3 year period, you can renew it for nothing more than a fee and cahsing in your CEUs. It's not a bad program, as you SHOULD keep certs up to date anyway, Continuing Education does that.

As for cramming, there isnt anything WRONG with cramming, I took a 1 week class on the material, then studied from Saturday through Wednesday, passed with an 840 on Thursday morning. It's all about what works for you, if this is your first cert, its all about figuring out what works. Good luck in whatever road you choose.

I agree. I studied slowly over a course of a few months, that way I could really ingest the material. Cramming all of that information in 10 days would just be stressful. I only had to guess 2 questions out of 100 when it came to testing.

Your close though, i would have to say that i agree with the others on this one, take longer than 10 days, space it out, take your time and crack it next time! Put your mind into it, you can do it! Good Luck dude.

My test is two weeks away (Monday Oct 25), and I was wondering is there anything else I should know about the test? I've been studing since July. I have all the books, notes and I'm watching Prof. Messer videos. Plus, I have taken the sample question on CompTIA, are there anymore materials I need to focus on?

If you don't know it enough to pass by now we have a problem. I'm sure you'll do fine. Don't overthink anything. I cant imagine trying to study for a test over that length of time, I passed my net+ after a 1 week class and 5 days of study. I took a Sec+ class last week, and going to knock that out by the end of the month. Everyone studies different I guess, but in 3 months you should honestly be good to go by now. I'm sure youre fine.

I suggest taking a practice exam and getting 85-95% per 100 questions. I ordered the Network+ certification - Free Network+ exam questions and Network+ Guide -uCertify test after going through the measure up practice test. So far it’s been a great product. Make sure you know: Protocols, CABLES, Protocol Numbers, and the OSI Model. This guide has been great too, and I have been using it to help me study Free CompTIA Network+ Study Guide by MC MCSE
Also, make note cards for cables, ports numbers, and the osi model. Good Luck!!

Definitely get a hold of a good practice exam. There are a lot of companies that make them. My preference has been the uCertify (I used it for A+ bridge, N+, and currently for S+). It has lots of material and questions. If you used the book from Lammle (which is the one I used) it came with 400 practice questions in the quizzes and 100 questions in bonus exams. I bought my voucher from the Meyers website and got the deluxe (or something) package which came with around 700 practice questions all for the same price as the voucher from CompTIA. All this helped me get my 865 score (and I don't have much network experience....)

Good luck! If you started in July, you should be pretty close!

Hello I just took this exam today i feel like the book, cram prep books and videos all were valid study resources but i still was not able to pass i got a 698 needed a 720. any suggestions on how i can successfully pass would be helpful
