windows 7 starter?

i was looking around at some netbooks and most are now shipping with windows 7 starter ... i have my msi with xp on it i was wondering if it would be worth the effort to upgrade to 7 starter

and has any one used it if so what are the drawbacks

Just install standard Windows 7.

The computer I bought came with home premium. The day I got it I pulled the HDD and installed professional on a new one.

I only ask because I have home premium on my laptop and I think it's fine. Dual boot it with any linux distro im trying most of the time.

Home Premium is fine for most people, even geeks. If I had to buy W7 thats what I would go for. If you need to join a domain aything Pro+ is required but Pro again will be fine for most who need to be on a domain.

Great point. For labbing just about anything you'll want join domain support. If you have any MS certs lined up consider that.

I have a Lenovo ideapad. First thing I did was replace the Ram with 2 GB stick and reimaged it with Enterprise. Much better plus I don't have all the bloatware.

Yeh I mean thats the only reason why, for domain support. I don't run a domain on my home network (only in vm's), so i wouldnt miss that support.

Syntax

I was fortunate enough to get Windows 7 Pro from my school before I graduated, and also picked up a few copies of 7 ultimate from where I used to work.
