Didn't take it :-(

Sadly I know there are a few of us that just weren't able to take it before last night

. I tried(failed to) almost registered but just didn't feel comfortable enough.

I do think it's the easiest of the TRIO but I was about a week too late. Now my goal is to score a 900

lol and get a DoD 8570 IAM II (GSLC, GISF or CAP) in addition potentially = promotion and more $$$K:D:D:D

I really don't feel bad at all I got the A+ and Net+ in a school semester taking 19 credits. Sec+ should be anytime soon now.

Any one in my boat??

And BIG congrats to everyone who pulled it through

and a Happy New Year to you all

I'm sure there are, at least in the regard of attempting, but failing, to get Sec+, Net+, and A+. I am aware of one person who I actually know personally. Don't worry, though. When you get to CCNA, I'm sure you'll care a lot less about those CompTIA certs, or so I've been told. I'm sure you can get CCNA within 3 years.

I wouldn't worry about it.

JDMurray has posted/blogged about this and several others have commented as well...if Security has become your passion and therefore career choice than you will need higher level certifications as well as being required to renew your SEC+ to hold clearances, so not taking before yesterday (or last year

). Won't matter in the long run since there is a good chance those who did obtain the certification before today will be required to maintain their certification regardless.

Obtaining the A+, Net+ or Sec+ before today was a great goal, but if you are making IT your profession, you'll be continuing your studies and in some instances likely to find you still need to have the current exam regardless of the lifetime prestige which has now ended.

I used the deadline as motivation to knock them out, but the reality is that it won't matter in the long run for pretty much anyone.

It doesn't really matter to me, I'm taking the test on February 9, 2011 regardless. I probably could have passed it before then but I'm not going to rush it.

For people who are into Information Security (that are not DoD), Security+ was never meant to be that certification making you oodles of money.

Security+ is more of an introductory cert into that field, the same way A+/Network+ are introductory certs in Information Techology.

For you to stay current on Security, it isn't by renewing what's supposed to be an intro cert; it's by working in your chosen field of Information Security and obtaining real certs like the SSCP/CISSP.

Paying $147 to keep an intro cert current is, in my opinion (again, my opinion) very scam-like on CompTIA's part. That money is better spent obtaining an ISC(2) cert if Security is what you're going to do. That was my motivation to get Security+ done as quickly as I was able, and not wait until the 11th hour to get that done. The only reason CompTIA did it is so that they can get those DoD/Federal folks to pony up every three years or what have you. If the Feds are paying for it, that means I paid for it (along with 300+ million of my fellow Americans.)

If you are reading this and you are now part of the Continuing Education crew, I would just get the Security+ and then worry about obtaining an SSCP/CISSP. Those are really the Security certs that are primetime anyway. Plus, when you get those certs, it counts as credit for keeping your Security+ cert anyway. But it shows that you are moving up the ladder and not staying in one rung, which is just wrong on so many different levels.

Thanks for the kind words people. Security and Networking are my career areas and as you have pointed out the certs that really matter require re-certification anyway. Still wish I could have though.

I keep hearing from the senior level IA managers that the CISSP was a tough nut to crack so I am looking forward to the challenge

I guess I will never know if I would of pass or failed the Security+ SY0-201 Exam?

I just didn't confident enough to go and take the exam, plus I didn't wanted to miss any work time just to go for a 2hrs test and a 4 hrs drive. I will attempt this exam later on this year probably near the end of January 2011, even do I am not Lifetime certified in Sec+, but I know that Security+ or anything related to the IT Security+ field is a constant thing you will always have to upgrade no matter what, such the CCNA Security, CCSIP? and more, It doesn't bother me that much anymore, things I guess happens for a reason? Once I am certified I am certified, then onto other certs.

The seem so much beefier and I am always looking for harder challenges

Best of luck in your studies, and as it has been mentioned earlier missing the deadline for lifetime certified by CompTIA is not a big deal. You are required to be current for 8570.
