LinkedIn job change ettiquette

When you accept a new job, when do you change your "current" position on LinkedIn and other social networks? Do you wait until you've officially started? As soon as you put in notice?

Just curious as to what the masses do. Even though I've got another week to go, I'm starting to clear my personal belongings out of my office, and that made me start thinking about this sort of thing.

Well first congrats on the new position.

I typically wait till near the last day of my current job then switch titles on the new job. My logic is at that point I haven't technically "switched" jobs yet due to the 2 week notice.

I'd wait till your last day or even sometime in the first week of the new job.

I usually wait till the end of the first week. I like to have a key to the building (or access card) before I list that I work for a company.

Never thought of that. I guess I don't care for social network sites as much as everyone else.

Wait at least until after the first job is done. But you also don't need to rush into updating the new job. I likely would because I am kind of OCD on that kind of thing, but I know people who just get to it when they get to it and it isn't a big deal.

It took me about 3 months after starting my last role to get around to updating my linkedIn profile. Guess that just shows how bad of a procrastinator I really am.

Dont get hung up about things like this as you are paying for this service. Once you have done the paperwork to say you are leaving put up the new profile.

When I was offered my current job I updated it before I left for work that day. Before I even turned in a two week notice. Also updated people on Facebook and Twitter. I was just happy to get out of my last job.

I have two days in, and I guess I will add mine now... I got an access card yesterday, and I got a RSA SecurID today, so I think I'm good to go

I might update it after the 3 month probation.

I usually don't put my latest position on linkedin. Whenever I quit a job, I will put that in the past section and leave the current empty. Sometimes, I feel that my classmates are stalking on me. Don't want my classmates to know where I work...then lots of ppl will ask for referrals. I dont mind helping but i would like to secure my position before helping others.
