So I bought a WS-C3550-24PWR was supposed to be new.. The item picture showed it in the shrink wrap and everything. Get it out set it up and have an amber light on the top light and maybe the second (hard to see if it is bleed over or really on).. Get in and look at it and I get this..
INIT: failed ILP accessing testcisco WS-C3550-24-PWR (PowerPC) processor (revision E0) with 65526K/8192K bytes of memory.
!!! WARNING: The switch is not usable !!!
Won’t respond to anything. Before I crack the case to check for loose memory ect I thought I would post here and see if you guys had any ideas..

OptionsGreenmet29 Member Posts: 240This is posted from a different thread:Reload IOS on it. Download a new copy from Cisco. Only needs registered guest access for switch IOS.
It may be a hardware problem but reloading IOS is free anyway so might as well try that first. -

it might be that that EMI image is not compatible with your model....
might try an earlier version of the 3550 IOS that isn't emi...see if the controller comes up -

Any recommendations on an ISO for the switch? -
Optionsmgeorge Member Posts: 774 ■■■□□□□□□□update the switch using xmodem to 12.2(44)SE6 IP Services.
See if it still gives you the same problem; if so then it shat the bed. There is no place like 127.0.0.1 -

Are these directions current?

Tried it and got no response from the switch.. Think it is time to send it back! -

If it's covered under a vendor warranty you probably want to contact them first and see what they want you to do.
Here's a link that covers the 3550:

Optionsgeek4god Member Posts: 187Maybe for that model of Linksys switch. I thought you were having an issue with a 3550.

Thanks for the help!
There is my problem I can’t run any commands from the switch and that seems to be a requirement.
a. Issue the copy xmodem: flash:filename command on the switch.
Here is an example:
switch: copy xmodem: flash:c2955-i6q4l2-mz.121-13.EA1.bin
Begin the Xmodem or Xmodem-1K transfer now...CCC
Unless there is a way to force the IOS on there it looks like it is time to return it.. -

Did you get the Switch: prompt?
Did it let you issue the
flash_init
load_helper
commands?
Did you try the dir flash: command?
Since the instructions may have you delete the image from flash before you even get to the XMODOM part of the instructions, that's where you'd definitely want your Vendor Okay to attempt recovery.
If you haven't talked to your vendor yet, you can still try the above commands, and then toss in the boot command (rather than the delete and XMODOM commands) and see if the manual boot miraculously lets the switch boot.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
Optionsmgeorge Member Posts: 774 ■■■□□□□□□□make sure you're transfering the correct file, not c2955, that image will not work on a 3550.
Also when you start the copy, you dont enter any commands you use your terminal emulator to send the file via xmode. There is no place like 127.0.0.1
