3750 switch stack

Can we do the stacking in the 3750 switch if the switch is L2 switch? How?

Where I work we have several 3750 stacks in L2 mode. Works just like a single 3750 in L2 mode.

Is there any benefit to using a 3750 in L2 mode over say a 2960? I can't understand the expense of such a high grade switch for L2.

As a general rule, when you move to the higher grade switches, the switching backplane (i.e. switching throughput) is usually capable of handling more traffic. You have to look at the specs to see what each switch is capable of, but going to a more expensive switch usually involves more than just adding L3.

EDIT: Just noticed that you posted a 2960 and not 2950.....In this case it depends on which model of switch you are looking at since they each have variants that beat the other. In the end, whichever switch is cheaper that meets your current+growth needs plus the IOS features you require.

Thanks, I suppose I've never considered the need for that kind of throughput on a L2 switch. Most of the deployments I've been involved in have had L3 at the core with L2 only used for access switches.
