CISSP study material for SSCP?

Megadeth4168Megadeth4168 Member Posts: 2,157
I'm thinking about going for the SSCP certification this year. When I finish my Bachelors of Information Technology and Security, in 2 years, I will probably go for the CISSP soon afterward, so it seems to me that it might be silly to purchase separate books for both exams if the CISSP book will cover everything I need to learn for the SSCP exam.

I'm just looking for opinions: Would I be better off to purchase a few CISSP books instead of SSCP books?

Thanks.

How subjective is "experience" in this case? Just curious since I have 11 years of IT experience, most of which is from a position where I routinely designed, configured and maintained all aspects of Information Technology for the organization for which I worked. This included setting up VPNs, Access Lists on routers, Administrating AD accounts and policies, performing backups and restores, monitoring firewall logs, Websense Administration and more.

I think the only thing I really didn't get a hands on experience with in the organization was the drafting of policies for the organization.

I suppose my question is: To qualify for experience does one have to have been in a position that is specifically titled as a Security position? My title at my job of 11 years was Information Systems Specialists, I am now currently a System Administrator for another company.

You will send in your resume as part of the application and one-year of networking and access controls will be acceptable. The SSCP's requirements are aimed at people who have only been out of university for a year or so.

I would venture to say you already have the experience requirements for the CISSP.

Thanks sabooher! I thought it over last night and decided that I will probably go straight for the CISSP. I probably won't get to it this year unless I really push hard over the summer.
