It's like the floodgates opened

So I've been looking into doing consulting part time on the side after hours and weekends. It seems now that I have Network Engineer for Cisco on my resume I actually get calls. I had 4 phone calls over the weekend, and landed two decent Engineering contracts that are cool with my schedule. (setting up some routers and switches for a couple medium sized business, doing some HSRP, and IGP setup)

Man getting this job has been like a dream come true. Is it just me, or is it because of where I work and my role that is opening up these side opportunities for me?

Congrats, that sounds like an excellent position you're in. I'm honestly a bit jealous, I only get called in to save a sinking ship with no tech budget. Ah, the joys of underfunded K-12.

Nope all just on Craigslist surprisingly!

Companies are posting on CL because it costs no money. It is a little more risky for job seekers, but weed through the ads which don't provide any information and you might get lucky.

Actually my luck hasn't been with responding to ads, it's been with posting my own ads. Brief paragraph detailing my experience, then a copy of my resume nicely formatted. Posted to both Gigs and Resumes.

I dont think it is any surprise that titles matter. Network Engineer employed at Cisco...that title alone brings a lot of credibility.

I thought having a CCIE was a prerequsite for working at Juniper -- at least back in the old days before they developed a name for themselves (and the JNCIE).

Yes Mike, I think that you may be right about that.

Now, I think that they might be a little more cocky, especially with the advent of their new QFabric flattened network architecture. We'll see....

It's not free anymore. I believe there's a $25 fee.
