Overlapping address
Eildor
I'm trying to configure some loopback interfaces but apparently I have an overlapping address with Loopback2 when I try and configure the address of Loopback3.
Loopback0 172.30.0.1 255.255.224.0
Loopback1 172.30.32.1 255.255.252.0
Loopback2 172.30.36.1 255.255.255.252
Loopback3 172.30.36.5 255.255.255.224
[% 172.30.36.0 overlaps with Loopback2]
Am I being stupid?

Look at what the message is telling you - subnet 172.30.36.0 is already in use with a /30 mask. In other words, the IP address 172.30.36.1 would match both subnets if you were to apply that command which is why the router spit it back out. If you really need a /27 then 172.30.36.33 is what you're wanting

The opposite would'nt waste IP addresses or at least would follow the design model as described by the industry
That's why we fill bigger address blocks first
172.30.36.1 /27
172.30.36.33 /30

It must be down to a lack of sleep; that's my excuse anyway!
