Thoughts about this studying tactic

Currently I am studying for the PMP. Basically going through the PMBOK and then the study guide again. I've read on multiple sites that this is critical, this was also the message one of the PM's in the orginzation I worked for suggested. I am going with this formula Study guide 3 times pmbok 1 time.

Okay anyway to my question

I currently have several old server books I have purchased but never read. 70-290 and 291. I have started going through 290 just to fill some knowledge gaps and because it's fun labbing. Reading, reading, and reading and not applying wears me out so this has been actually enjoyable. (SAD I know)

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this. I don't want to spread myself to thin, but on the other hand I am not just interested in Project Management I like other things as well. I am not doing the server labbing and reading for a certification. It's just for fun and knowledge. I do hope to achieve more knowledge and to give myself a more indepth understanding of client server environments. All my knowledge is from performing the work so I am hoping to compress my knowledge with additional concepts.

Its all valuable time and energy diverted from your PMP IMO.

I'm a little confused as to your intent...why are you pursuing the PMP - is work requiring it or was it something you picked out? If it's the former then quit being ADD and knock out the PMP icon_smile.gif. if it's the latter then just switch tracks to something you are more interested in and hopefully will aid you in your current job. Most organizations like to see an ROI when they pay for certs (if they are...), and the more often you are able to demonstrate it, the more likely they are to foot the bill the next go round.
Cisco was my first networking love, but my "other" router is a Mikrotik...

High level answer required no but highly encouraged. Not just my immediate manager but the account manager and program director.

However, this was when I was working full time for this company. Now I have transitioned into a part time/consultant position in the meantime. Since then I picked up another position working in software support. Basically a software specialist team that supports clinical applications, ERP, and MS office suite along with some of the other MS app likes Project and Visio.

When I embarked on this adventure there was good reason, but after failing the exam and now working part time in the PM coordinator/service transition lead role I have my doubts of getting it.

So there you have it. I will say I have a lot of time invested in the PMP and infact I took the exam and failed once already. I have one more exam voucher left to take the exam, so I should take it since there isn't a refund and that exam runs around ~500 usd.

The role change occured when my wife took another position out of state.
