How long does it typically take to get a response after a interview

On Wednesday I had a phone interview. I must of done pretty well on it because he invited me to come in for a face to face interview the next day.

This interview was with the IT Manager again and the CEO. The CEO just asked the basic HR interview questions. Then the IT Manager spent about 45 min showing me around the facility. After the interview he said he would talk to the CEO and get back to me.

When I got home I sent a thank you email to the IT Manager and I have yet to hear anything back.

What would you guys do?

You won't hear back immediately, you may have to wait a bit. It will probably be about a week or two before you hear anything.

You should've asked for a time frame on when they expect to make a decision.

I know. I was pretty nervous/excited and didn't think about it until I was already gone.
Is it normal to receive a tour of the facility after a interview?

In what state was this interview? Wonder if we interviewed for the same gig. I had the exact same thing happen to me last week.

It depends on the company and how many people were involved in the decision on who to hire. In my experience I find that it can take anything between 2 days to one 1week to get an answer. Although I have been to two interviews where the companies hired me on the spot after speaking to me for about 30-45 minutes.Don't get me wrong these were not IT jobs, well one of them was IT related the other was customer service/sales. But they were big companies.

I would say a week max is about normal/average. Anything longer than that then they must either be struggling on a decision or they have more people to interview in a given timeframe.

If you are anxious to know and don't feel like emailing them and asking for an update?
What I usually do is send a thank you email. I have done this once in the past since it was going on 2-3 weeks.
A few days later, I got a call that I got the job.

Sometimes they have a hard decision between a couple of prospects, and that thank you email could put you over the top.

The job I just landed took them one month. I had a phone interview, then came in a week later for a face to face. I never heard back and totally forgot about it. Got an email asking if I was still interested a month after the first face to face. It was there busy season and it just took some time.

BTW, it sounds good if the CEO was there and you were given the tour. Just hang back and see what happens.

It really depends on the company, the position, and how impressed they are with you as a candidate.

My previous job, it took about a week to get the phone interview, another week to get the in person interview, and then 2 weeks for the offer to come in.

My current job, it took a few days to get the phone interview scheduled (was the week before christmas, so things were a little hectic), the in person interview was scheduled immediately after the phone interview for the following day, and less than 24 hours after the in person interview, I had the offer.

Getting the tour is usually a good sign, it means they're interested in you, and it will really come down to how many other qualified candidates there are. If you established a good rapport with the interviewers, that may win you the job over someone who may be more qualified, but less charming.

Thanks guys! I haven't give up hope yet.

Every position is diffrent. 2 of my last 3 jobs i was called back with a job offer either later that day or next day.
It really depends on how urgent they need you and how many people they are interviewing.

anywhere from 1week to 4months for me in the past. 2 factors:

1) number of qualify candidates
2) how soon they want to fill the position

best thing is to contact via email and ask for an update...but don't be pushy.

Or took a counter offer lol. I had that happen in my recent job search, one of the companies I was interested in went another direction. Their first choice took a counter offer, and by then, I'd already accepted my current one.

Just talked to the recruiter, he said that he just heard from the IT Manger and that they haven't made up their minds yet, but I am still a candidate.

I guess I didn't do as well as I though I had on the 2nd interview.

I still have hope though.

Like others have mentioned it varies widely. Definitely don't put all your eggs in one basket. Keep searching and applying to other positions so you haven't wasted a bunch of your time waiting only to find out they aren't interested. Best of luck, I hope you hear something soon!

Usually you can expect feedback inside two weeks if you have been successful. It's worth following up for feedback one week after an interview. If you go through a recruiter speak to them as opposed to the client directly. When people are hiring they often need to make time for it to make a decision internally and will speak to other candidates. If unsuccessful if can often be because the budget to hire hasn't actually been signed off and while you might well be useful to them they actually cant offer anyone a start so dont get hung up about it.

Apply for more jobs.

Right now there's no reason to think you didn't get it. Hang in there. Some companies have very busy HR people or dept managers. At my previous job I went through a full battery of interviews and got excellent feedback from them. I didn't hear anything for two months. A couple of years after being hired I brought up the subject and the IT Director explained that they were just spread thin and kept pushing aside reference check and those sort of things. On the other hand, my current company called me back with an offer 5 days after I interviewed.

As most said, keep checking with the recruiter.

Very true. You find with recruiting that the internal people have to shuffle a lot of stuff around to make time for the business of meeting to decide, and sometimes those required to do it are engaged elsewhere. Some patience on the part of the candidate is prudent. As for the much maligned HR department, please try and remember that they are often understaffed and have to deal with recruitment for all kinds of positions for the organisation not just IT, and they have payroll and any number of other busy functions to execute for existing staff on top of recruitment needs.

Hmmm. Just heard that they brought on a temp to do the job for now. That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would they go through the trouble of interviewing me for a full time position only to end up bringing on a temp?

Could be a million reasons why. Budget would be the first thing that comes to mind.
