Hey guys, passed the written exam! It's been a cultimation of various levels of study since I cracked TCP/IP vol1 a year and a half ago. There were some questions that I don't ever recall being in the blueprint but it was balanced out with some CCNA/CCNP level questions so I guess it evens out. One bit of advice I'd give to those studying is to know how the core protocols work and impact the network - not just the details.
e.g. instead of asking about some minutiae you'll get a topology and be asked to determine what happens to the network when 'X' is changed (trying to give tips without breaking the NDA!).
It's a big sense of relief for me but sort of scary in a way because there's a huge wall of work that has to be done before I even have a chance at the lab. The real work starts now really.
For labbing I'm going with a hybrid dynamips setup which I've been slowly accumulating.
So far I've got
$800: Dedicated lab PC loaded with Ubuntu
$30: 4 port serial PCI-xpress card for the switches
$1600: 4 x 3560 switches ($400 each from ebay)
Still waiting on:
$390: 3 x D-Link 580tx quad port nics (man the price on these is insane nowadays. This was the cheapest I could find - got them from Germany via ebay $130 each)
I've done most of INE's vol 1 workbook as part of my written studies so I'm thinking of heading straight to vol 3 to build up my core - don't want to worry too much about services/security etc right now with vol 2. This seems pretty different to most peoples routine... any pointers?
Anyway no rush for me. It's taken me this long to do the written, I'm in no rush for the lab. 2013/2014 is fine with me - I just hope there's no more big changes
