What's got the longest uptime in your network?

So I had to work on a router in our core the other day and I noticed as I was testing failover capabilities, that the uptime on it was over 3 years! In the tech world you're doing good to make it a year without rebooting let alone several.

So what's your longest running uptime and what piece of gear is it on?

So far (and i'm still checking) mine is on a Cisco 7606 router

 uptime is 3 years, 11 weeks, 1 day, 20 hours, 14 minutes

I have some CentOS Linux servers running with 1500+ days (over 4 years) of uptime. They basically haven't been rebooted since installation.

But it now it's time to patch them so they will all go back to zero :-/

So that means when you patch you have to do a fresh OS install.

Run "yum update" then reboot. That's about it.

-cpsc01 uptime is 4 years, 37 weeks, 1 day, 10 hours, 45 minutes

This is the longest uptime I know of right off hand in my network.

A few solaris boxe's that look like they've been up since the beginning of time.

I work for a managed service provider and one of our clients have a pair of cisco 6509s that just hit the 7 year mark.

We had an hms server that was up for 72,181 hours, never was turned off even after we moved on to new servers, can we say YAY for HIPAA?

Not sure on the uptime but I recently found a Win 2000 server running hidden in a rack that has been replaced by at least 3 servers since then. Just got buried and never turned off for probably 6+ years.

The longest uptime I have personally seen was on a Linksys-grade WAP in a small branch office - it was something like ~5 years

I think we had some old cat 5k series switch that had been up around 4 years maybe longer at one sight...most likely one reboot away from death. Most of our gear in the data centers are subject to planned power outages and we power them down ahead of time. So they don't rack up high numbers often.

We have a couple switches here at work that have uptime of 10-11 years.

Sadly, we have no extremely long uptime boxes... at least not anything I have access to. We like to play on the bleeding edge as far as technology goes, so every night, we're upgrading something to new code. Consequently, we spend an awful lot of time on the phone with vendors....

So who's got the longest windows uptime

Current job there has been so much power work during the site redevelopment that nothing now has an up time of more than about 6 months.

Last place I worked has a few cisco device at around 4-5years before I replaced them.

It is just serving as inband access to an old sonet ring.

That is about it. It has a simple life and no config changes are ever needed.
We actually have several 2511s over 10 years. This is just the oldest one I know about.

Clearly a bug, but funny nontheless .. most of ours show 130+ years uptime ..

We just decommissioned an NT4 server that had been up for 5.5 years. Regarding Windows, a long uptime is not a good thing....just means you aren't patching

That is an excellent point regardless of whatever system is being used.

2800 voice router: 4 years, 44 weeks, 2 days, 14 hours, 20 minutes

I looked back at the calendar and it’s the date that I installed it. I never update the IOS on our existing production voice routers (with the exception of our Corp gateways) – unless there is a new feature that I need. I’ve been burned too many times trying to stay “current”.

The point is, anything with that type of uptime is typically going to be some back office machine or router that serves a small number of machines and is very unimportant in the scheme of things... that or no one has the balls to restart it

Mainly this.

I 'm sure not going to be the one who pulls the trigger

. Then I'll be searching ebay for another 2511. Oddly enough I was able to get Cisco to RMA another 2511 at a different site with no questions asked. They are old but you can't say they are not reliable.
