Passed N10-004 today!

This was my first cert test I've taken and I passed with a 850/900. I used Testout and brushed up a few areas with Prof. Messer. Testout proved to be a great resource, but the questions on the real test seemed wildly different then any practice test I've seen. Also, they gave me all the difficult questions up front so that put me on edge for the whole test, so I took a full hour to complete and review. So now I am going to start cracking on the Sec+, I have the Darril book for that, then after next term I will be done with my CCNA track at school, so hopefully I can pass the CCNA composite in the summer.

Well done zrockstar, congrats, top score also. I thought it was a difficult exam <was for me anyhow>, the Security + in my opinion is easier. At least now having networking fresh in your mind, perhaps a third or more of the Secuirty + is already sorted for you.

Network + was the hardest CompTIA exam besides Project + 2003. I thought Sec + was EASY and A+ was moderate.

I found Net+ to be the easiest of the bunch.
Funny how people differ on that.

Is 004 easier than 005? Which would you guys suggest to take for someone who has not begun studying for the Net+?

Thanks for all the congrats guys. The 004 is on the way out, and the 005 is the replacement. I believe you can take the 004 until August. I believe the 005 has some more IPv6 knowledge in it, so if you are planning on furthering your studies or don't think you will take the test before August, then go for the 005 because the IPv6 knowledge should be helpful for other certs. For me, I took the 004 because that is what my class at school was based off of. The general advice is go with whichever one your study material is for, but since you haven't started studying yet, take your pick! Personally, if I was doing it on my own without a class, I would go for the 005, because some of the 004 material just seems soooo legacy.

I wouldn't say the the 004 is easier than the 005 but it is different. A common question is "What are the differences?" and I wrote this blog outlining many of the differences between the two: Network+ N10-004 and N10-005 Differences. Some of the material on either exam may already be familiar to someone so that exam may seem easier to them.

As zrockstar mentioned, N10-004 exam retires August 31, 2012. There's certainly enough time to study and take the N10-004 exam before then but if you don't think you'll be taking it by August, you should focus on N10-005.

Hi, im taking mine on the 30 of march.
For people that didnt take the net+ yet, comptiauk.com as a demo account where can do some practice exams and read about all modules.
The pratice exams shouldnt be very different from the real one. i think is a good place to practice.
