Ethernet to USB - Any success?

We have a usb printer in one of our offices that we would like to put on the network. There are several adapters on the market, but most are only usb 1.1 not 2.0. Has anyone used any of these successfully to print through the network? We could just go buy a new printer that is network ready, but if we can do this and the printer still works, why not?

Just make sure you buy one that doesn't require any software other then printer drivers on the users pc. We did support for a company that had a usb to ethernet device that required "taking control" of the printer in question. It was a nightmare to support, as we would get tickets daily saying the printer wasn't working and it ultimately ended up being the user not selecting to take control or it was currently in use and they couldn't.

I've done it with no problems. As the_Grinch mentioned you just want to make sure that the solution doesn't need "special" client software to work.

Besides the JetDirect devices, you could also use the Ethernet medium to transmit the USB signal.Amazon.com: USB to RJ45 Extension Adapter UpTo 150ft: Computers & Accessories Just share the "local" USB printer off the computer it is attached to.This would help cut out troubleshooting any problems with the JetDirect device itself. Not sure why you need USB 2.0 for a network printer.
