Which is the perfered way in this scenario ?

I am contemplating on upgrading a 2003R2 x64 Domain controller to 2008R2 x64 domain controller. However, I want to do this via an upgrade and not a wipe solution (wiping the drive and installing fresh). Reason being is that I'm going to have to do this again anyways in the near future on newer hardware, meaning this is only a short term solution for now.

Is it easier or more difficult in your experiences? From what I've been reading on tech net, it sounds simple enough.

The procedure itself is esay ... I presume you also want to raise the function level ? If that is the case then you have to make sure your environment is suitable.. This is the hardest part .. We have for example certain .NET applications which don't support the raised function level etc...

These are test environments so I was going to leave them at the 2003 function level. Although it would be nice to raise them to 2008R2. I will check out that link and check for things that wont work because I do run some asp.net applications. Thanks for the link.

After some verification, everything will work fine with a 2008R2 Forest / Domain functional level! Woot
