Need advise on C.V.

Hi Folks,

I would be very much in your debt, if you were to have a look at my resume/C.V.

If you could be as blunt/honest as you can that would be great, i'm here in Ireland and I been informed that there are plenty of I.T. jobs in Ireland. Dublin in particular and other major cities but primarily in Dublin.

Now I am looking at the entry level jobs, getting my foot in the door if you will. Start at the bottom and work up.

For the life of me I can not seem to get anywhere - replies are thanks but no thanks or no replies at all.

If you look at my C.V. I have already got experience from 2007 to 2008 and that was a temporary contract and it wasn't renewed by the contractor to the company, I believe our company wasn't happy with the new terms of the contract ie less money and they lost the contract.

If you could give me feedback on my C.V. that would be great.

I've being hearing pros and cons in realation to cover letters what would you think?

Is this how most of the resumes are done in Ireland? There is definitely a lot of info that wouldn't be included in your typical resume in the US.

Remove the hobbies and references sections. Remove your date of birth. Education can be condensed as well. It shouldn't almost fill the entire first page. I wouldn't put down your individual classes and grades. Just state your major and/or GPA. Ditch the work experience from 2003-2007 since it has nothing to do with tech experience so therefore irrelevant for an IT resume.
The certifications can be condensed and you don't need to link to their sites. You're wasting too much real estate on your resume by going into that much detail. For every 10 years of experience, you should have one page on your resume. Since you have less than 10 years of IT experience, everything needs to fit on one page.

Thank you for the reply, to be honest that is how I always done my resume. A typical rule of thumb here in Ireland is that 3 pages is max after that its in the bin.

What I was getting at is what Iristheangel pointed out. In the states we usually don't put DOB, hobbies and rarely have I seen one with references. Same with the grades as well. Not sure if that is standard practice over the pond though.

Thanks for the reply, that is good information to know at least I can send out my resume minus the extra padding and see how I fair out.

With regards to cover letters, would you include a cover letter, i've been told that some recruiters dont bother with them. It's the resume that more important than the cover letter.

Here in Ireland i've been told that the cover letter makes you stand out, what would be insight into cover letters yes/no?

Definitely put a cover letter in too mate. There have been a few cover letter threads lately, do a search on the forums and use the layout.

Here's your resume somewhat in the format of my resume. Check attachment and see how I easily fit yours into one page and it looks more professional. Put some more meat on the bones, surely you could come up with something.

Yes I was in melbourne for a few weeks travelling around, the huge street market i believe its called Queen Victoria Market correct me if im wrong on the corner of an intersection. Nice place especially down by the yarra river as you head towards the casino along the riverfront. There a bar inside a shopping precent or office building. I was in there for a few cold ones.
