Transferred in A.A.S. to WGU & most CU's have been cleared! 36 Left for BS-IT

Thought I'd post just in case anyone was curious, as I was before starting the enrollment process at WGU. Of course results may vary depending on what various classes your community college offers. My AAS was in CSIS- Networking & Security. They actually gave me credit for completing the Cisco Networking Academy as part of my degree which was quite a surprise! Many IT courses that I took at my comm college that would not have transferred to most brick & mortar schools were accepted.

The general ed classes that I have to take are the 2 literature, arts & humanities courses & the 2 organizational behavior & mgmt courses

All of the MTA & A+ certs have been cleared

The certs I need to do are Network+, Security+, Project+, CIW: Javascript Specialist, Web Design Specialist, and Database Design Specialist

Tech Writing and Capstone need to be completed as well

Hoping to finish in a year and a half to a year. I'll have more of an idea when they open up everything for me in the student portal.

Congrats, they're working on my transcript evaluation as we speak. Have you thought of taking the ge courses via straighterline and try to finish in 1 term?

Is there a way you can post what classes you took at your CC? I about about 2 months away from my A.S. and have been very curious about this process.

They gave you credit for completing the Cisco Network Academy coursework? Did you complete any of the Cisco certifications. Only asking because I too completed the coursework but have not taken the certification exam.

I am doing the regular BS-IT. I didn't want to do an emphasis because it would cost less in the end to study for them on my own- helpful advice from fellow TE members

I have never heard of Straighliner until now. I'm starting WGU on July 1st so I'll prob just roll with that.

I have 2 humanities classes- no literature classes.

Now that I look back at it I don't think they gave me credit for the Cisco Academy. I took Networking & Security classes outside of Cisco so the credit could have actually come from either Cisco or the other courses; I don't know. I am not certified.

When they give you your transcript they don't tell you exactly what course cleared what degree but I was pretty much able to figure it out. For example, the Microcomputer Hardware & Microcomputer Operating Systems classes I took cleared the A+ courses for me at WGU. The Security Fundamentals MTA was prob cleared by either the CCNA Security course or the Information Security & Ethics course. Windows Server cleared the Server MTA. Access 2010 cleared the Database MTA. So on and so forth...

My school recently changed the degree program last year so I can't put up a link to the site but I did however attach a list of the courses that I took for my AAS. Attachment not found.

So what I have left after transfer credits is: IWC1, IWT1, BNC1, RIT1, BOV1, TPV1, KET1, KFT1, CTV1, CJV1, Tech writing & capstone. Hope this helps.

Oh and I also totally forgot that I had started off with a different major at first so that's how I cleared the science requirement. I had already taken Anatomy & Phys w/ lab & Chemistry w/ lab. I also took sociology.

Devilry, If you are transferring an A.S. you'll def clear all of the gen ed and will just have the certs to worry about most likely from what I can tell by way of my A.A.S.

I guess I need to also look into the different tracks at WGU as well...I'm looking at the Networking track..it appears to be (2) of them...this forum has been very helpful.

I had originally decided on the Networking track as that is my career goal however; it was pointed out to me that with my transfer credit I would actually be able to complete my degree faster with the no emphasis BS-IT than with the Networking. It would take me one term alone, maybe more just to complete the MCITP cert whereas with the regular BS-IT I'll be completely done in 2-3 terms. I would rather pay for the study materials on my own, which would be cheaper than paying for an entire term AND having the stress of being under the gun to take the exam in a decent amount of time in order to maintain SAP. I'm going to earn those certs eventually, but it just makes more sense to do it on my own.

Ha! WGU was trying to get me to go for the Network degree since I've already attempted the CCNA. A colleague of mine who went to the same comm college recently started at WGU....

So, you and the colleague determined what would correlate to specific classes then? Interesting that WGU tried to get you to go the networking route.

Somewhat, and I don't think there was any ulterior motive behind her trying to encourage me to go the network route; I just think she had her filter on- just like HR folks. She knew that I had gone through the Cisco Academy and that I had attempted the test so she probably in her mind was thinking "well why doesn't she take the degree with the Cisco certs". She most likely was not thinking from my point of view regarding cost, time commitment, etc.
