what role is this exactly?

Hi,

Just wanted some clarification.. what role or title is this exactly?

Setting up of email accounts in Exchange
add and deleting users in AD
setup of new laptops and PCS and adding to domain.
providing technical support to end users thru phone or directly.
set up of mobile devices, ( blackberry, Ipads and Iphones)
maintain backups of servers
maintain inventory of switches and resolving basic network connectivity issues.

Access control, Helpdesk, deskside support, junior admin, asset management. AKA JOAT

If I had to consolidate the title I would call you a IT technician or IT support technician.

Isn't it amusing how most job titles in the IT world are not standardized? At my old employer, this would be a combination of our security access team and desktop support.

what's worse is that a recruiter just called me about a interview and he asked what's my exact title and what title would i like to pursue in the future and im like I really dont know. I touch so much stuff I wouldnt know what to specialize in.. lol..

The role seems like a junior system admin. It's a hybrid position with abit of everything and it would be a good entry level admin job I reckon.

If you didn't know what you wanted to specialise in, then saying you wanted to be a system administrator would probably be your best bet. Most system admin jobs are hybrid, with abit of everything, server, network etc, so after abit of experience in such a position it would be easy enough to go the pure server route, or network route depending on which you liked better.

Sounds like Senior Desktop Support role at best.

It really depends on the size of the company.

At a large enterprise I could see this being a senior helpdesk position or a junior system administrator position.

At a small/medium business this could easily be a full fledge sys admin position.

The other possibility is that the job description was written by a non IT person because you would be the only IT person or work with just a network admin and the person who wrote the description just kind of guessed about some of the details of the job.
