WGU Competency test?

Leaning towards applying to WGU and just spoke to an enrollment guy.

He kept mentioning that before I can apply, I have to do an competency test.

I assume a lot of people have done this .....piece of cake? Wicked hard? Any recommendations?

It was pretty easy. Brush up on basic high school math and english.

Yeah it's super wicked hard and requires you to be a genius mathematician with potential Nobel prize nomination, and have written a novel or two. Recommendations? Let me google that for you.

I have heard that is is remedial high school level math and English with some analytical reasoning skills. I found a bunch of info in the student experiences sticky.

It really is pretty basic, If you passed MiddleSchool math you should be fine on that part.

The english is a little harder though, 12th grade level-ish

While I don't particularly care for the unjokingly manner in which forestgiant described the readiness exam, it's really not an exam at all.

It's just to give WGU enrollment counselors an idea of how you would do in a WGU program. It wasn't an exam I studied for...I just wrote an essay, answered some questions, and that was it. The ASVAB was a much harder exam...

The real "online tests" occurred while you are enrolled in a class and there is going to be no husband (or wife, or preacher, or any other person) sitting directly behind you.

In short, if you have at a minimum average intelligence, you should be able to pass with no trouble at all. Plus, you can certainly google whatever you need to google.

It only takes about an hour if you're math and English competent. The only problem I really had was coming up with a topic to answer the essay question. Open ended stuff like "Name a time in your life when you struggled with something and how you overcame it" always throws me for a loop. I'd much rather write an essay about... anything else. I sat there for a good 15 minutes trying to figure out where to start on that but once I got going it only took me about 10 minutes to write. You get notified of the pass really quickly, or at least I did.

My thing was (and was trying to be tounge-in-cheek about and not sound like a d---) if that was going to throw you for a loop, imagine when you start...that's why I gave you a razz....

Math part had some pre-algebra questions. I think 20 for each section then an essay. I dropped mine, haven't gotten around to getting back on the ball yet. Last year it was a 6 month wait for a retake, they seemed to have changed it to 3 months now.
