Network Admin Certs

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has experience or knowledge in what certs would be best for a Network Admin. I am pursuing my B.A. in Network Administration and I have read numerous certs I should get. Just seeing if there was someone out there with more experience in this field as to what route to take. Thanks in advance!

I would think the CCNA would be a great one to start with seeing you have a academic knowledge of networking.

For pure networking, you can't go wrong with earning your CCNA as a starting point. After that, it's up to you if you want to pursue higher-level Cisco certs, something from Juniper, or perhaps even look at Linux-related certs like the RHCE, since a lot of datacenter guys tend to manage both network equipment and *NIX servers.

A friend also told me to get my Network+ cert and A+ cert. The network+ cert I can see why, but would it really help me to get an A+ cert if I don't intend on working in a repair shop or a related field?

If networking is your goal I see no reason to spend over 500 USD on two exams that will serve relatively little return on your career. Stick with you degree first and then the CCNA and I personally think you will be positioned well to land a nice job.

He should be able to get the student price on the comptia exams
$125.00 think it has to be ordered via one of his professors to get the reduction

Essentially dropping the price in half, I am assuming 125 per exam. Not sure how that shakes out with A+ since there are two exams. Either way more affordable. I still think the CCNA is the way to go especially since the OP is getting is BA in networking.

No reason to pick up an adolescent certification when they are well into their networking journey.

Skip both and go for Sec+.

Why not leisurely study both the A+ and Net+, but not take the exam. You'll have the knowledge, without having to pay to validate it.

Then you could get your CCNA and go from there.
