Now I am even more confused about going after the CCENT cert. Since there really is significant changes....which would you recommend? Also, I got the impression that the new tests are or will be available for taking very soon. Is that true?

So if someone passed the current ccent, can they take the new ccna security exam when its available or do they have to take the new ccent then the new ccna security?

I cant see any info on a new CCNA Security it stays the same, so if you have a CCENT then you can take security! This works out great for me!! I think they are pretty much stuck with having to honor the current CCENT for at least 3 years so that no one is left with a completely useless cert they cant advance with.

I could be wrong but it looks to me that the ICND1 is a little more harder than before and the ICND2 is a little more easier than before.

Ok so are we saying then ICND1 is harder and ICND2 is easier now?

I am still Studying ICND1 and will have it done soon, I am not rushing and if I get CCNA done before cut off so be it if not I get the new one.

With all these changes would it not be wise to get the new one, as what is the point in learning old stuff that is taken out and not learning the new stuff that is used now that is added in?

The problem here is when taking the old ICND1 with the new ICND2 there is a window of knowledge here that will "gap" & may cause performance issues. That is the point in taking the old ICND2 exam, IMO.

I agree with that, if you havent taken any of them though maybe take both the new ones?

I havent taken either but I am 80% the way through ICND1 and I will be damned if I am starting again lol

I would take the new ones except that, like you, I'm partially (55%) through the ICND1 haha.

You want to work hard on the CCENT! I just spent the last 6 hours on my outline for the IPv6 section of my book! That should give you some incentive to get this test done! Of course you can still buy my book when it comes out!

But maybe it's just me being blind.

I will definitely finish ICND1 before the deadline. That isn't even a question. What I concern about is the gap that exists in knowledge between the old ICND1 and the new ICND2.

Have you considered writing a pamphlet (lol) on just this knowledge for those of us whom will be stuck "between" exam changes?

The old ICND2 had ACLs and NAT. Now they are in the new ICND1.

Like I said, if you will just click "Learn More" on that page then you will see the changes Todd lists. It's a pdf.

Everything that is in the new ICND1 is also in the old ICND2 book. The only thing missing from my memory are these topics below which you can learn just by using your favorite search engine.

Recognize High availability (FHRP)
Configure and verify Syslog
Describe SNMP v2 & v3

The Cisco Press website says ICND1 book is April 17th, ICND2 April 29th.

So JustFred....if you were to go after the two test route, based on the info you just ascertained...given the limit of time constraints....would you choose the older format or this newer one? I am in limbo about what I want to do.
