Where to move to?

I been stuck in the South East (Georiga/Florida area) for the last 4-5 years and I am getting sick of it. If you had a chance to move, where would you move to? I been all over the United States/World aready due to being in the Army for 6+ years. One of the few states I haven't been to is Colorado and I love the idea of seeing mountians again, but I don't know the IT market there though.

I am seriously looking into moving to either Atlanta or Houston to find that elusive first IT job based on the feedback on TE.

Atlanta is only a 4 hour drive from me but I hear the traffic is murder. Not sure if it is worth it.

I'd like to move to the Carolinas. I was there for a month as a teenager and it seemed like a really nice region - and the RTP area seems to be nicely high-tech to boot!

Austin, Charlotte, or Atlanta. Austin is probably out of the question do to family.

Maybe not the best career choice, but I'd move to Idaho or Montana in a second if it weren't for other commitments.

I know a lot of folks suggest RTP, which is a good move. However, just for the overall culture and location, Charlotte has worked out amazingly for me. Cost of living is less than RTP and from what I recall in my research the pay scale is around the same.

Texas or Carolinas. Wife and I could easily move to the LA area and get jobs. But I could never live in Cali.....anywhere there. Unless I had no kids maybe.

I plan on making my 1st move in a year. Starting to work on my credit and create savings.
The 2 spots currently on my mind are Austin and Seattle, w/ a higher preference to Austin.

I live outside Charlotte and it's pretty nice, spent some time in Texas and will never go back (yay AF basic at Lackland AF base) along with upstate New York. Spent a weekend in Huntsville and while it's a good tech hub the people can't drive worth a damn.

My vote is near Seattle. I've been around quite a bit and there is no other place I'd rather call home.

The IT job market is amazing out here which is a huge benefit.

I wouldn't mind Seattle, I am from Merced, California so it would be closer to home (I do not want to go back to California though). I do have a few friends who live in Springs Co and love it there, I am starting WGU on 1 June and once I get some better certs under my belt I will look about relocating.

That's exactly what my plan is. I'm starting WGU in a few months as well, and with a few more months of experience and a few more certs I'd start saving up to relocate - either Seattle or Austin.

If I ever leave California this is where I will move. It's an awesome city I go there every year for PAX Prime

Being born and raised in the Raleigh - Durham area I have always wanted to move to the West Coast. Funny to see all of the west coasters that want to move here. The cost of living (which is still growing quickly every year) in combination with decent scenery (not as good as the west coast to me) NC is an excellent place to be.

How bad is the rain situation in Seattle. Is it really cloudy & rainy everyday for months on end like people say or is that just an exaggeration

For me (and my GF), it's either Seattle or Boston. We're starting to lean heavily towards Seattle though. Sadly, anyplace that I decided to move too would be a HUGE upgrade over my current location

I'm not sure how Seattle is, but the cost of living in Boston is ridiculously high.

I second Texas. I left Tampa\Orlando 1.5 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for my career. As soon as I hit Texas I doubled my salary.

Cost of living is about Par with florida. Sales tax is a bit more and there are some toll roads (not as bad as orlando). There are a ton of IT jobs here. I get flooded with calls for interviews all the time. I'm in Dallas. Austin has been on the latest reports of the fastest growing city for IT work.

I don't have the beaches or the theme parks, but I can afford to fly back there when I want and see them.

I'd love to move because there is no opporunity where I live, but my current level doesn't merit a company hiring someone from out of state. No one would pay for me to move, and I likely wouldn't be making enough to justify a move. That said, I have been looking at TX, SC, NC, and KY because you never know when that BIG opportunity might jump out at you.

My girlfriend and I are going to check out Portland/Seattle this summer to see if we like it. I'd also like to check out Austin and Denver but I really like cooler coastal weather. I think the mountains of Colorado would be cool but my girlfriend doesn't want to be that far away from an ocean. At least Austin is fairly close to the Gulf.

Yea Austin is the flavor of the month, but it can't touch D-FW with two anchor cities and many companies between Dallas and Fort Worth and also major hubs in suburban Plano, Irving, Richardson and Denton. Really big for Healthcare IT.
