Tech certification questions?

Scenario: You are a tech already employed and working in the IT field with the required level of experience and all your certs happen to expire, now will that affect your current job in any sort of way, are you going to get fired, can you get a job with your expired certs and how important is it to upgrade your certs compared to your level of experience.

My friend is an Active Directory Engineer at Duke Energy and he let all certs expire about 3or4 years ago before he even got his current job. Experience is key

You only need active certification when trying to get a job, once you have the job generally it becomes less important. Unless you work at a place where certifications are a requirement (this is the case in my current job).

What i am gathering from you guys is, the importance of certifications depends on the type of company you work for and experience is a very important requirement at the same time.

It's universally quite important when you change jobs. As others say, at your current job, it depends. Most employers are going to be more cognizant of your decaying skills than whether a particular certification expires.

Some companies will require you have certain experience and certifications and/or degree to even get an interview. Other organizations will require you maintain your certifications in order to keep your job. Some companies may even let you work without active certifications but what I'd be thinking about no matter how plentiful the employment is right now.. What happens if you end up unemployed at some point with expired certifications?

Three years is a long time before your A+ expires if I were you I'd sit the N+ before the A+ expires. Then three years later sit the N+ again or take the Security+. It can never hurt to reinforce your experience with current certifications. One nice thing about CompTIA is if you have the A+ and sit the N+ce you'll automatically become A+ce as well. Plus with new certifications and skills that are recognised nationally and/or internationally affords you the ability to request a pay rise from your employer or to find other jobs that offer better pay, benefits, working hours etc.
