Which tablet is the best for studying?

I'm thinking to buy a tablet for studying. I have an iPhone and a laptop; one is too small and the other too heavy to carry around. I will be doing a lot of reading and watching training videos/YouTube.

I'm thinking about Google Nexus, but wondering what you guys recommend. I'm looking for something reasonably priced.

I'm gonna buy what this cohort is using!

And just so you know the apple n android marketplace are so vast they created an app for anything you can think of. Its good to have if you plan on using it. I think if its just internet, reading, videos any lower end tablet would suffice but if its used as your productivity tool you need to shell out a bit more for a fully featured tablet.

I would probably recommend a tablet with an SD card if you plan on loading videos on it or get a 32GB model if it's a Nexus device since Google is not allowing SD cards on Nexus devices anymore. I load a ton of comic books on my 16GB iPad and it takes up a couple of gig. A few games and the OS itself and I find myself checking that "space remaining" setting all the time.

I used the old Nexus 7 and purchased ezPDF Reader from the play store. I recommend it. I read over lunch breaks and when home for an hour so 2 hrs a day and I get 5 days out of it.

I've pretty much had the Surface Pro and it's been perfect for me. I've used it for the reading material on my MSISA program and it hasn't hurt my eyes yet. It's 2 pounds so it's not the lightest tablet out there but If I start complaining about 2 pounds being "too heavy," I need to refund my gym membership ASAP. The only thing I would change about it probably would be the speakers. It's not as loud as I'd like so when I'm doing stuff like watching Trainsignal or other training videos and have something else creating noise like the AC, it can be harder to hear.

They raised the price? I get that they added more but they probably had a slim profit margin as is.

I've been singing the praises of my Kobo eReader, but. . . I finally got Kobo going on my Velocity Cruz Micro PS47. The PS47 was a bit early for its time and not outfitted well enough, but. . . It was probably one of the first 1GHz tablets marketed by a semi-known brand here. It's slim and decently fast, but has poor battery life, no Google Play and little internal storage. I spent the better part of the year or so I've had it struggling to get Nook and Kobo going. It's had a decent Nook version going for a few months now, but finally ran across a recent enough version of Kobo that I could side-load to replace the old one. Found out you have to uninstall older Kobo versions to install the newer ones!

Anyway, for most studying folks this tablet would have limited use-- it would be considered slightly below mid-tier now. For me, though-- I really like the bright black-on-white display of the Android Kobo app compared to the reader in limited light (and after a long day). I'm not going to run it that many hours at night or in the morning anyway. So it's good for me to have both the eReader and the tablet for the current run of studying.

The PS47 tablet nearly got relegated for cheap tablets that were tempting me on eBay, but getting Kobo saved it! I can once again wait for that "nice" tablet, as I now can run recent versions of all three eReader apps and a PDF viewer-- which is what I bought it for anyway.

I bought one on Friday. Just so there's context, I'm the owner of an iPhone 5, iPad 4, a cough, cough Blackberry Playbook (my job gave it to me) and a former HP Touchpad (with Ice Cream loaded on it) owner.

The Nexus 7 is the best small Android tablet. If you're using it to study, it allows the drag and drop of videos and books. There's a Nook, Kindle and Safari app.

My only qualms are as an iOS user (product construction, app selection, etc). But it's a great tablet for the price. I wouldn't buy a Samsung Tab, Nexus 7 2012, Nook HD (though they are on sale for a good price), Kindle Fire or iPad Mini with the Nexus 7 2013. I'm sure Amazon, Apple and Samsung will have something in the coming months.

That's where I'm right now, whether to go with Nexus or Kindle HD. But Nexus 7 is where I will land.

Yeah - it's an unfortunate affect of not finding quite the right tool for the job

Have you tried Chrome yet? I had the problem with Chrome scroll stuttering really bad on the original Nexus 7. People kept telling me to use Dolphin but I like syncing my Chrome bookmarks across devices.

I bought the XPS 12 for studying, and I pretty much love it. I also bought a Nook HD because I wanted something I could throw in a cargo pocket and carry anywhere, I chose it because of price, access to play store and sd card. The biggest downside to the Kindle Fire is lack of Play store, I have a Safari books account and the Amazon store doesn't have the Safari books app, that and the lack of an SD card, which is also true of the Nexus. I haven't tried a lot of pdf apps, but I have been pretty happy with RepliGo Reader, I used Goodreader on the iPad, and so far RepliGo has matched all of my uses from Goodreader.

Surprised not more people say iPad, although I guess that goes against Geekery. Maybe I am getting old, but I have grown tired of tweeking my devices all of the time like my old Android tablets (Galaxy 10). I now prefer the iPad--although I haven't had to study on it really yet.
