If your supervisor mentions something, take it with a smile and accept it as honest feedback, areas for improvement. Then begin taking corrective action to improve. When he / she sees your actions and enthusiasm, it will go a long way to getting noticed. Making one's self promotable is not rocket science, honesty and the willingness to take the good with the bad is what makes one management material. As well, being a team player who is not afraid to take the lead shows incentive. If you have contributed to campaigns that have saved the company money, that always helps. Believe it or not, it is the small things that get noticed. This is coming from someone who climbs the ladder at every institution I have been involved with. Always be a leader, not a follower.
