Help Needed-ITIL Exam

tsirantsiran Registered Users Posts: 2 ■□□□□□□□□□
Dear All,

I'm working as Business Analyst and wish to appear for ITIL Foundation level Certification Exam.

Can anyone help me on following things:

1. Is it suitable certification for me?

2. Is ITIL same for all users group for example tech support people, voice support people, business analysts, business development managers etc
or
Will it vary among various users group?

3. Is self study enough or Do I require to go for training under any institutes?
4. Where can I find more ITIL books and relevant resources(FREE)?
and finally
5. If I posses the certification, will it be valuable asset on shaping my career growth and what kind of job roles will I get and what kind of jobs can I apply?

Thanks a lot,
Siran

    Hi Siran

Here are my suggestions for you:

    1) ITIL will certainly complement a Business Analyst role. There are other certifications you might also find useful such as OBASHI and COBIT, so it's worth having a look around at what is available
    2) ITIL is best practice for all of IT. The Foundation course will introduce you to the basics, but then for further study people tend to specialise - so a tech support person might specialise in Service Operation, or a business analyst might specialise in Service Design
    3) You can self study for the exam, but if you're looking to add value to your career and get a deep understanding it may be worth investing in a course - either online or in a classroom
    4) You'll find lots of recommendations for books in the threads in this forum - I have written 2 and there is also one by Liz Gallacher and Helen Morris that is very highly recommended. There is also free material available, but be careful of inaccuracies and poor quality
    5) ITIL is very widely recognised across the IT industry. A good approach is to check job listings for the types of roles you're interested in and see if ITIL is part of the required skill set

    Kind regards
