Hi All.

Thought I might start this thread and get it going as registration emails have been getting sent out.

I have signed up and am expecting confirmaiton/payment details to come through in the next couple of weeks. I'm keen to get this going. I do wonder if they are going to upgrade to 5.5 or just stay at 5.1 as it is around the time the exam will be upgraded- Will be interesting as I have already started reading 5.5.

Thanks guys, look forward to following this.

In the mean time, Have a great Christmas.

I registered via the thread that was posted about this course about a month or so ago. Do you know how you go about finding if you made it into the class? I'm assuming you would receive an email or something along those lines
  • kj0kj0 Member Posts: 767
Did you make the waitlist for the summer - POsted about 3/4 months ago? There was a Spring Waitlist posted just less than a month ago, was that the one you signed up for? You would have received an email last week if you made the Summer list.

Having just finished the December class I can honestly say you dont need the books. I looked over them, and then never opened them for the class. Save your money and buy better books, maybe the mastering Vsphere ect.

    Cruwl,

Have you taken the VCP or do you plan to soon? Would you say the class was helpful as far as preparing for the VCP certification?

I've got both Mastering 5 and 5.5. Half way through 5.5 now. Hopefully finish it by class time.

I wouldn't bother purchasing the official coursebooks. Since you have mastering vsphere 5 and 5.5 you are all set.

Each lab you do, there is a lab PDF that literally goes step by step on what to do.

I'm waiting on the payment email but I was wondering about the version also. I'm really hoping that it is for 5.5.

The class is based on 5.1.

VMWare just launched its 5.5 course for the public. I just hope the exam is still 5.1 !

Anyone have an idea before the exam becomes a 5.5 ?

The rumor was for end of January/February - Easiest way is to keep an eye on the blueprint.

I need to take this course now, even though I am currently finishing up reading Mastering vSphere 5.5. Hopefully I'll be able to take the 5.5 exam by the start of March.

I guess ill be taking the 5.5 too. Will this class be allowed for credit towards the 5.5 exam.

The point of taking this class was exactly that !

The exam will most likely be called 5.x as it currently is for 5.0 and 5.1 - I'm going to assume it will be the same with 5.5 and will just cover anything extra that is in 5.5, eg. vSAN, WebGUI changes, vFRC, etc.

It's like the MCSE/MCSA when they upgrade them from R2. They are practically the same except for the additional R2 questions that are thrown in.

Nope, i got in straight away. Gone through the quizes already. I did notice the time stamps on when the content was updated was 9am and 9:08 etc. it's almost 1am, so I will get the main topics out of the way and then start tomorrow with the Labs, etc.

ISSUES LOGGING INTO THE ONLINE CLASS IN MOODLE:

We had an upgrade to our Moodle online learning management system just prior to the orientation emails going out, and I was not aware at the time. The correct URL is Welcome to Stanly Community College. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please try again if you are having problems, and let us know right away if you have any further issues.

The new URL works ! Thanks.

I was able to login correctly, and book and log into a pod.

I booked pod3, and went to start exercise 1, and found it had already been completed!

How do I get this reset! I have already emailed Dustin, but was wondering if there was a more appropriate contact?

I noticed this as well, I would think a forum post in moodle would be the best way. Someone might say they just restarted and booted to CD.

[Edit] I just restarted and pressed "Esc" at the vmware screen and selected boot from CD. And then follow the instructions.

I did try rebooting it, but I wasnt given any option for cd booting. Might have another look.

    Edit: that did the trick!

I've just worked it out, (Now I do feel like I've asked a Dumb question - Which is not a dumb question..)

There are about 30 Labs if you scroll to the right, If you look at your POD that you have your booking on, there are people who have used it before you, I am assuming we need to stick with a a particular Pod to work with that hasn't been used that way our progress remains.

Hopefully, I will start this course in March, so I appreciate the thread. I do have one question: what is the overall cost of the course. Most schools I have attended tack on additional fees (registration, technology, etc.), so knowing what to expect will make things a lot smoother for me, especially from a budgeting perspective.

    Thanks!

It's very good value for money, especially considering the 5 day crash courses for the same thing can costs as low as $AU1000.

Thank you for the responses. Very good price, probably one of the best all around values out there. Good luck with the class!

Can I ask whereabouts can you get it that cheap? A 5 day course over here costs €2795 / $AU4250 / $3775..

Probably don't hold me to that, it was a quoted price from way back. If you quickly look over AU offerings on the VMware website. they are ~$3000.
