going for JNCIA

hi all,

i've been browsing this forum for a while and thought id join up!

I've been in networking for a while now but only just now getting round to learning and wanting to cert up.

started working for a company recently and they specialise in mainly juniper kit so i would like to pass my JNCIA as soon as possible.

from what i've been reading, the majority of folks recommend the following -

2 free pdf's from the juniper website
Michael Shannon's cbt nuggets
junos genius?

any help would be most grateful and i hope to post some good news on here when i pass!

If you've been working in the field for a while the two PDFs is really all you need. Especially if you already have the CCNA. Fire up an olive or two as well if you don't have hardware to lab on.

So what's this "2 free pdf's" I've been reading about in some of the threads here? Is everyone talking about the Junos Study Guide Part 1 and 2? Not too sure because I downloaded those under the Learning Portal but they're dated 9-16-2010.

Anyway, I just completed a 3-day Juniper course that my company had me and my co-workers attend. I have just finished my CCIE written exam a couple of weeks ago and this Juniper class kinda gave me the Juniper itch and I'm thinking about giving JNCIA a go.

You must be talking about the Fast Track Program. All you need to do is register with juniper and the material is available for FREE download. I think their material is dated in 2010, but if I remember correctly, they said that the fast track should be good for the new exam version they released earlier this year. You might already have them from the looks of your post.

Pass their 30 question exam, and get a 50% discount on the exam as well. I used this along with a few months hands on Juniper experience and passed. At your knowledge level, you probably just need to brush up on junos commands and features.

I think the Dummies book is a bit better than the two PDFs, but I read all three.

I tried to take start on the JNCIA back in March. Went w/ the Dummies book at first - put me to sleep. I ended up putting off the JNCIA for another time.

I used the 2 free Juniper Fast Track PDF's aswell as the CBT vids which I felt prepared me well.

The dummies book is definitely a lot better then the 2 free PDF's and it goes beyond what you need to know for JNCIA. The old CBT Nuggets by Michael I also found boring and I battled to stay focused while watching them but the new CBT Nuggets by Scott Morris is awesome and he really covers each topic on the exam very well

Thanks for the tips. I did a quick glance at those pdf's and they are exactly the same materials covered in the class I recently took. In fact the student guides we used are almost verbatim with the pdfs.

I took the 30 question practice exam and got a 57%. I should've paid more attention in class.

Anyway if the exam questions are in the same vein as they are in practice questions, then I think studying for it will be straight-forward. I recognized every single questions they asked. Of course with only a single 3-day class taken, I couldn't remember every single command syntax in their correct form. Studying will fix that

Hello people!
I'm new to this forum and i must say, it is very very useful! So thank you! Quick question, I'm preparing for mY JNCIA exam next week. I have downloaded the PDF's and the Junos Genius app and doing well with both. I have finished all the reading, but then i realized that the Network Fundamentals (first section of exam topics) is not available on the PDF's. I need guidance please on where to find, cover and master this section in one day. Please Help!

Hi riddas,

On the fast track portal, there is a 90 min interactive Flash video that walks you through the Network Fundamentals portion. I would recommend checking that out.

Interested on your feedback once you complete.
A colleague of mine @ a very similar skill level to myself (he probably knows more actually... hahaha) said it was a complete doddle once you memorise the JunOS specific bits, as routing is routing and by now we all know the CCNA level stuff in our sleep.

FWIW I read the two PDFs and did the 30 question test immediately (no revision, only labbed the stuff in part 1) and passed

Going to finish off labbing part 2 stuff and re-read the PDFs in depth, take the exam mid Jan is the current plan.
