How long does it take to prepare for SY0-301?

Hi

I am pretty sure this question has been answered many times however I cant find it. I'll have to do the exam before it retires on December, I have kind of good experience.

How many hours of study do you recommend a day? are two months enough?
Is Darril Gibson's book enough?

Regards

I think 2 months are enough if you have some experience. I took 3 months and aced it, but I don't have any formal security experience.

too broad a question as everyone has different lifestyles, commitments and study habits. but when you can score 90% or better on every (different) practice/simulation exam you touch, minimum 3, you are probably ready.

Good luck. Study hard, know the fundamentals, and you will do fine. As redterrorz wrote, take at least three different practice/simulation test with pass scores in the 90+ range and you will do well.

I used nothing but Darril Gibson's book and passed with a very high score. It took me ~ 4 weeks of preparation. However, I was working part time then and was able to devote a large percentage of my time to the test.

I am also studying for the Sec+ although I am taking the SY0-401. I also plan on taking it in December. Will be using Sec+ book by Sybex + CBT Nuggets + a few practice exams.

    Goodluck!

Which practice tests do you recommend?

I am using the same book, I find the questions by the end of each chapter to be easy, I am afraid the exam is way harder

I would say around 1 month - I was revising 2 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening - my background is 14 years working in IT support and just over 1 year in Security

All I used was the Darril Gibson book and the paid services on his website Get Certified Get Ahead | Helping people Get Certified so that they can Get Ahead in their careers - highly recommended. didn't need another book.

    Good luck with the exam.

This is what I am scared about, I am getting 2-4 questions wrong at the end of the chapter, if I get more I go back and read. But the questions seem a bit to easy and not at all challenging which may not be preparing me for the test. It's been about 4 weeks of preparation for me.

    I had the same fear.
However, just make sure you know why all the correct answers are correct and the wrong answers are wrong. If you can do that for every question, then you'll be fine.

It took me about 4 weeks with no networking (other than my home) and no security experience. I used WGU resources and looked at Pro Messer's videos.
