a bit confused about the Microsoft certification process

phdillardphdillard Member Posts: 86 ■■□□□□□□□□
I start a class next semester for MCSA Server 2012 and the class is basically a prep class for the 70-410. What I can't figure out is, will passing the 410 give me the MCSA cert or do I have to take and pass 410, 411, and 412? If that's the case, do you get any kind of title with passing just one exam, or do you only receive a Microsoft cert once all 3 have been completed?

I think you become an MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) for passing your first exam. You need three exams to get the MCSA on Server 2012, but they recently changed it, so check the Microsoft Learning site to be sure. 410 and 411 are still required and a third exam but there are other options besides 412 now.

I just happened to be on that page in another tab already, but ajs is right.. instead of 412, you can do any of these, which iirc is also good for the MCSE (413, 414) track:

Thanks for pointing that out, I missed that little detail.

I did not know that the MCSA 2012 has the option for electives. Below is a link to the Microsoft blog that has the break down.

summarized in my post above ;)

I found the MVA course the 409 extremely valuable, accounted for maybe 3/4 of my learning along with technet, to help me get that cert

So there is no all in one test for this. It has to be taken in 3 separate tests?

    Correct, no all-in-one test. 70-410+70-411+(70-412 OR 74-409 OR 70-346 OR 70-462)= MCSA:Server 2012
