Path decided

After the failed attempt at VCDX last year, I've been somewhat aimless. The prep for VCDX attempt was exhausting and even before that I was on a one year VCAP tear. I needed some time to recharge my battery and figure out what I wanted to do next. After trying out various things, I'll be focusing my effort on vCenter Orchestrator. It has great synergy with other stuff I'm interested in.

So if anyone's has experience with vCO and would care to share their experience, I'm all ears.

I remember you blowing through your four VCAP's, that was a siginificant effort. The VCDX probably requires the effort of all four exams put together, sure it would've been taxing. Can I suggest you join a study group for the VCDX? I think Gregg Robertson has(d) one going, John Arrasjid has this VCDX Academy going too (with special pricing for employees).

I dont have any experience with vCO and would like to hear about others' experiences with it too. Good luck with your pursuit Dave!

I also got side tracked. My VCAP-DCA is on a back burner ATM. I need to heavily concentrate on vCAC / vCO myself. New job is highly focused on it.

vCO is great, especially in conjunction with vCAC. Its the definition on XaaS.

Creating an Advanced Service in vCAC so people can create whole OUs in AD using vCO workflows - just a start.

Yup. vCO's the engine that drives vCAC.

vCO is a good, but remember there is a whole lot to orchestration.

In addition to vCO itself, key parts are to large, complex deployments will include:
-REST (getting bigger and bigger as every new component and management layer is starting to provide north/south bound REST API access)
-solid PowerShell ability
-solid Bash ability
-SQL ability
-solid understanding of LDAP/AD and being to manage programmatically
-Expect

Remember, vCO isn't the only orchestration tool either. Sometimes you'll even use one workflow engine to call workflows in another. Take a look at tools like vCAC, CPS, UCSD and OpenStack-based orchestration.

The 5 day vCO course does not touch vCAC at all. Most vCO developers I know barely know how to spell vCAC

It's on the long term roadmap at my current engagement. I'll probably do a PoC/pilot next year.
