Possible to pass security + 90 days

Hi Guys,

Would like to know if it would be possible to pass security + in 90 days and with self study?

Thinking of studying for the exam throughout the summer.

I've seen a lot of posts saying it was much more difficult than N+. I found the Net+ exam easy and passed with maybe 2 incorrect answers.

I'd like to do CCNA in Sept and am hoping S+ would be a good way of reinforcing and adding to what I leaned in N+

Take this with a grain of salt
it took me a week to read to read Darryl Gibsons book - get certified get ahead and I passed the exam with 1 question wrong a week later, and I'm terrible at test taking, and I had no experience in security. I have an extreme interest in it so that might have helped but I would say 90 days is very easy.

Oh wow, could you link me to the posts saying it was much more difficult than the N+? I'm starting school again in a month and a half and I need to take CCNA and N+ first before moving on to the project+.

I like to tackle on the more difficult exams first

Hard work in the beginning. Take a behemoth on and then have the trickle down effect on the network+ exam. I'm not sure why WGU wants N+ and CCNA, makes no sense to me!
Only reason I see to take the CCNA is because it's a prerequisite to CCNA Security, but I think N+ should get knocked out of the equation. Or maybe because CCNA is so Cisco oriented they wanted something vendor neutral.
Bah, oh well.

I had maybe 3 months of school experience when I attended a 5 day security + bootcamp and passed it on the 5th day (back when it was cert for life). I studied a ton and passed by 5 points. It may be a low score, but its entirely possible to do it in less than a week.

Coming off of Network+ I was able to self study Keith Barker's Security+ CBT Nugget course and Darril Gibson's online study package and was able to pass in just under 4 weeks of study.

I have been told that for security plus the biggest thing is making sure you memorize the terms.

90 days is MORE than enough time to self study and pass the Sec+ exam.
Darril Gibson's book is a very good reference, and I used it. CBT nuggets, as well. I would say that at even before the 30 day mark you would be telling yourself to go ahead and take the exam and not wait 90 days because you'd be ready...easily.

I passed after two months of self study. It can be done.

You can study for it in half that time. Even in Darril's book he says you can do it in 45 days.

I had a lot of the knowledge already, but this book is very thorough and will fill in any gaps. It has everything you need to pass the test. Grab it, and study it. You'll pass easily in 90 days.

I studied for about 3 weeks using the All-in-One Exam Guide series with no real work experience. I found it more difficult than other entry level certifications, but it is definitely doable in 90 days.

Darril Gibson's Book + Professer Messer's videos and you can have your Sec+ within a month, long as you have the time to actually get thru the materials.

However, if your goal is CCNA, it might be better to simply jump into the CCENT now and do the Sec+ after. Coming straight from the Net+ to the CCENT would help a lot better from overlap than Sec+ to CCENT.

I was able to pass it in 30 days using Derril Gibson's book and Labsim and Professor Messer. I had no previous Security experience. 90 days would be no problem if you study at least 30 minutes a day for 90 days.

Could you pass? Yes. However, you should learn, retain and be able to understand everything the test covers, that is what counts!
