vmware workstation? connect host only to internet?

I was wondering if its possible to connect host only in vmware workstation to the internet? Can this be done via pfsense or similar firewall utility?

Does anyone have a possible guide?

Or is there another way I can use DHCP in vmware workstation and still connect to the internet for my guests

If you use NAT type connection your VMs will get a DHCP address from your workstation, but will still be able to access the internet through your workstation. That's VMnet8 network on my particular install (though that might be left over from my old vmware player configuration)

There are a couple of ways you can do it.

I sometimes use bridge so that my VMs talk on the same network subnet, but you can edit your Network setting for your NAT and assign a new subnet.

The other option is to set up your own router and do it that way. (Use AutoLAB to set up your lab if you want - Includes FreeSCO router)

I tried this and when I set a static IP the connection fails

Been a while since I played with Workstation but when you use NAT, you probably have to allow the relevant ports in the NAT config.
