Is the VCP-NV worth it ?

Im curuous about this cert along with network virtualization. I would like to know if this cert will yield a good ROI? Also what is the outlook for network virtualization?

I believe the long term answer is yes. NV is the future. Many enterprises are moving into NV.

Near term answer is it depends on what you're doing. If you work as a consultant, there's a good demand for NV experience. If you work as sys admin, you can wait a while.

My recommendation is play around with the Hands on Labs and see if it interest you.

Remember VCP-NV just came out so it takes time for the market to acknowledge it.

Yeah I already got an Esxi lab up setup virtualizing Centos , real server, routers and switches. I'm looking into the DCV cert but I also have strong background in Networking. When I saw this cert my eyes really open and my mouth water. Personally I'm a doc guy I love my documentation but I heard some of it for this technology is not clear. I might take my time with it and put an eta for December to become a dual VCP, NX, DCV. But really it depends if I can obtain my CCNA security by the end of summer so I can graduate from school.

We probably run one of the largest NSX implementation since its release (here in the UK anyway) and it is not just the docs which need work, there even seem to be a disconnect between engineering departments within VMware as to what is and isn't possible.

It will take some time to mature properly and hopefully with it, the documents and KBs.. Especially the latter need some REAL work as some NSX KBs just don't make sense.

Yes, I think the ROI will be good and I don't think the LOE required to pass is really that high.

That said, I personally don't think holding VCP-NV or VCIX-NV will mean much or be useful unless you have a CCNP:R&S level background to match.

Then you're in a very good position. Seen some resistance from Network teams around this. If you throw a server guy in front of them to pitch/install NSX with little experience on firewalls and routing protocols, things may fall flat.

I'm Preparing for VCP-NV but my CCNA has expired. Do I need to re-certify before I sit the exam or can I pass the VCP-NV exam first then do re-certification for my CCNA.
